Coronation Street legend Alan Halsall has spoken out about his recovery following an operation on his knee.

The actor, 41, has played Tyrone Dobbs in the ITV soap since 1998 and is currently embroiled in a huge storyline that has seen his ex-girlfriend Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu) return from her native Romania after three years… with their son in tow.

He’s also got the added pressure of parenting his teenage daughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan), who has taken a liking to arsonist neighbour Jack Webster (Kyran Bowes).

Alan recently had to take some time out of the long-running serial after having an operation to fix an ACL injury.

The ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, crosses in the middle of the knee and connects the thighbone to the shinbone to stabilise your joint.

It can be injured in a variety of ways, usually by stopping suddenly or changing momentum when running or cycling.

At the time, he shared a picture of himself in bed with his leg propped up, noting that the surgery was his leg and would require nine to twelve months of rehabilitation.

To facilitate his op, Tyrone was written out of the show to go on holiday with wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine).

Speaking about his ongoing story with This Morning presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle yesterday, he also offered a fresh update on his condition.

‘I’ve had a couple of operations on my knee. Listen, they never lengthened my legs like I asked them to. But I’m doing good.’

In November, he wrote on Instagram: ‘Well, On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well.

‘I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family and friends I’ll get there.’
