Coronation Street cult leader Rowan goes too far with brutal move – and Amy is left reeling

As Rowan Cunliffe (Emryhs Cooper) recognises The Institute is slowly starting to fall apart in Coronation Street, his desperation to hold things together increases even more.

For cult member Leanne (Jane Danson), things started to change for her when Toyah (Georgia Taylor) had her operation after being diagnosed with cancer. The fear of losing her sister suddenly put things into perspective for her, so when she told Rowan she was prioritising seeing Toyah over a job for him, he was angry.

Alongside this, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) has continued to express an interest in the organisation.

In upcoming episodes, Leanne finds Rowan who explains that Amy is doing an upload today and is reconsidering investing in the resource centre.

At first, Amy seemed incredibly keen on the idea but when Aadi (Adam Hussain) made her realise she didn’t know a great deal about the ins and outs of the investment, she backed out.

‘The pressure just is really, really mounting up from Rowan, he’s using lots of tactics to make her feel guilty about not investing, and make her really feel like this is a huge mistake, and that she’s missing out’, Elle Mulvaney told us, revealing why Amy has changed her mind about investing.

‘This, combined with Leanne’s efforts as well, is just really putting the pressure on to the point where Amy thinks I have to invest in this. This is a great idea. They’ve got a point. I am going to be wasting my life if I don’t do this, and she puts ultimate trust into Leanne. She’s being told if you don’t do this, you can’t get to that next level, you can’t be happy, you can’t get rid of all this stress that you’ve got right now. So I feel like Amy’s ultimately backed into a corner.’

At Amy’s upload, Leanne urges her to relive her trauma in order to banish the negativity. As Amy unburdens herself though, Leanne is taken aback to realise Rowan is recording her.

In the week, Leanne supports Amy ahead of her malware session. Standing in a group of people with a blindfold on, Amy is horrified as the members throw insults at her. Leanne assures her that it’ll be worth it in the end, but Amy becomes too distressed and runs out.

As Amy’s ordeal reaches the Barlow home, Tracy (Kate Ford) spells out that they’re taking their story to the Gazette.

Urging Leanne to persuade Amy to call off her attack, Rowan points out that now she’s senior management, her loyalty to the cult is more important than the relationship she has with Amy.

Leanne’s troubled and torn – what will she do next?
