Former Coronation Street Kathy Jones shared that she would be more than happy to make a cameo as Tricia Hopkins for Gail Platt’s exit.

With her departure set to air later this year, Helen Worth’s final storyline has already been planned – and it involves the return of an iconic Corrie character: Martin Platt.

Having arrived on the street in 1985, Martin, played by Sean Wilson, was involved in a number of dramatic storylines.

Sharing the news of Sean’s return, Kathy quote tweeted: ‘Oh heck what’s gone on? I’m here……just waiting for the call!’

Fans were also here for Tricia making a comeback, with @lewispringle replying: ‘You are the obvious choice for me! x’

@rhonddalad added: ‘Hoping and praying you can go back for Gail’s final eps!’

Tricia Hopkins was the daughter of Idris and Vera Hopkins, actress Kathy made her first appearance in 1973 and her last in 1976.

Metro.co.uk understands that she began filming her final storyline this month, with her last scenes due to air at Christmas.

Luckily – it doesn’t seem to be doom and gloom – executive producer Iain Macleod has confirmed a ‘happy ending’ for the icon.

‘Gail won’t die. It didn’t feel like killing her off would be right’ he told the Daily Star.

‘Gail’s exit is a brilliant story, I thought what do viewers want to see?

‘Gail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and some disastrous marriages. So, we thought what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that’s what we’re doing.’

He also added that Helen has given her seal of approval towards what the storyliners have planned.

‘Helen loves the storyline’ Iain continued.

‘Recently, she described it by saying, “It’s the perfect ending for Gail’, so I can sleep soundly at night.

‘You don’t want to inflict an ending on someone after 50 years that they’re not happy with.’
