ITV Coronation Street’s evil Joel escapes justice leading to Lauren showdown

Coronation Street's villain Joel Deering escapes justice on the ITV soap next week - and immediately targets Lauren Bolton, who is no doubt the reason he has been hauled in for questioning

Coronation Street villain Joel Deering escapes justice next week in an infuriating new storyline.

Joel has finally been found out for what he has done to Lauren Bolton, with him having attacked her and left her for dead. What he didn’t know was that she was pregnant with his child, but when she finally made a return to the Cobbles, he desperately tried anything to get rid of the baby including inducing her before the due date.

He will finally be caught next week – but a worrying development happens when DI Costello tells DS Swain that they don’t have enough evidence against Joel. Angry and furious it’s come to this, DS Swain tells Joel that he is free to go.

Rumours begin to spread about Joel secretly feeding Lauren drugs in an attempt to abort her baby, and Betsy overhears Daniel quizzing her mum about them, guiltily listening in. Lauren heads off to visit Frankie but she comes face to face with Joel. What will he do and is she in even more trouble than she was before? We know what Joel is capable of – will Lauren be ok?

Earlier this month, Channique Sterling-Brown warned Joel is “playing a very dangerous game”.

“We’ve been filming all the lead-up to Joel’s downfall. I think he’s playing a very dangerous game and he’s walking on thin ice. It’s been fun, because it’s been like planning a wedding but also exploring this different side of their relationship, where he’s really deliberately deceiving her to keep his lies and his other life undercover,” she told Digital Spy.

“Obviously Dee-Dee is a smart woman, so she’s definitely picking up on his signals. I think it’s going to be a real time of turmoil for Dee-Dee whenever the truth does come out. I think she will be questioning her judgement of character – and her judgement in general.”

Channique is hopeful that this part of the storyline will help other women who have felt deceived in their relationship.

Speaking about the upcoming storyline, she added: “But it’s been really important for me personally to protect the integrity of the character. In so many situations, people are deceived. While it might not be to the extent of the kind of person Joel is, if someone has deliberately pulled the wool over your eyes, it doesn’t make you stupid – you’re a victim too. I really hope people are able to relate to someone being manipulated in that way and how you reconcile who you are after that.”
