Kym Marsh teases return to Coronation Street after exit was 'left open'

Kym Marsh says she is open to a return to the Coronation Street cobbles.

EastEnders have been bringing back lots of old faces and if ITV did the same, actor and former pop star Kym would be a top choice for fans. And Kym said: “It was left open, very much so and if the chance and opportunity was to arrive then I could always return if that was what was wanted.

“So yeah, there is always that option for her to go back, unless they kill her off! [Michelle Connor, who left Weatherfield for Ireland in Corrie]. But there is that opportunity and I mean, I just love that show, I will always love Coronation Street, it’s such a major part of my life.

“It’s gone by so fast, my mum would tell you that she thinks I’m a workaholic. But I think the one thing for me that I always feel is very grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and to be honest, none of us know how long our careers last for. One day these job offers won’t come up anymore so I’m of the mind that while they are there take them and I enjoy what I do, I love what I do and I have been given some brilliant opportunities over the years and I’ve ran with them but it has made everything go by in a flash, for sure.”

Kym, 48, has been performing on stage rather than the big screen recently in a touring version of 101 Dalmatians The Musical. Kym also confirmed she was in love again in July – falling for stage co-star Samuel Thomas a year after the breakdown of her third marriage.

As well as the theatre, she has a busy TV schedule with work on Morning Live and Waterloo Road. In a separate interview on Radio 4 Kym also spoke about hating some of her tattoos she had done when she was younger. She is desperate to cover up bad tattoos she got in the past – including a “blob” on her bum.

She told the Loose Ends podcast: “I’ve made some mistakes over the years… I have some very bad ones on my body. I’ve got one which no one will ever see, unless you see me on the beach. I got a cat tattoo on my right bum cheek when I was about 19. To be honest, it’s just a blob.

“It actually looks like the Slazenger logo. I look like I’m sponsored by them.” Kym played the role of Michelle Connor for 13 years. Previously she had been in the music business with pop band Hear’Say. She won a place in the band in 2000 on ITV show Popstars and had years of success.

She made her television acting debut in 2005, in an episode of the BBC One soap opera Doctors, playing a character called Ruth Parry. That same year, she also became a regular panellist on ITV’s daytime show Loose Women for its eighth season and she joined Coronation Street in 2006.
