Coronation Street Nathan Curtis twist ‘confirmed’ in Lauren Bolton storyline as fans spot glaring clue

Despite Lauren Bolton's firm denial, Bethany Platt is convinced that Nathan Curtis was involved with her disappearance and Corrie fans have now agreed with her.

Could Lauren Bolton still be keeping secrets about her ordeal?

Soap viewers believe Lauren Bolton is harbouring more secrets than she may be letting on as they believe Nathan Curtis could still be involved in her ordeal.

Coronation Street’s Joel Deering (portrayed by Calum Lill) was revealed to have tormented the wayward teen (Cait Fitton) by repeatedly abusing her, physically, financially, mentally and sexually. The villain’s secrets have since been thrown out in the open as his former fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey has vowed to take him down.

However, in scenes aired on ITV on Wednesday (August 21), Bethany Platt was more than convinced Lauren was still keeping secrets as she grilled her over Nathan Curtis’ potential involvement in the abuse she suffered.

The criminal was released from prison earlier this year and it was enough for Bethany to think he may have harmed Lauren in the same way he’d harmed her seven years ago. On Wednesday, as Lauren told the police Joel worked alone, Bethany rushed to the hospital to confront the wayward teen, accusing her of knowing more than she let on.

Off-screen, multiple viewers of the Manchester-based programme agreed with her as they spotted Lauren’s seemingly shifty behaviour as she cast evasive looks around during her chat with Bethany. “Still not fully trusting Lauren she’s hiding something. I’m sure of it”, one of them wrote on X, otherwise known as Twitter.

Another added: “I actually thought exactly the same thing tonight she looked very shifty. But she’s told so many lies it’s hard to believe anything she says really”, while a third commented: “Going by the look on her face as Bethany, or was it Daniel, walked away, I think you are so right there, seems there’s more shocking secrets to come out still.” A final fan echoed: “Yes and shifty when asked about Nathan.”

As one of the biggest villains in the Manchester-based program, Nathan Curtis has been the target of furious backlash during his first stint in Weatherfield, with viewers eager to see him get his comeuppance.

Christopher Harper’s ITV alter ego made his debut on Christmas 2016 before becoming a secondary antagonist the following year. Upon his first appearance in the long-running program, Nathan witnessed his ex-girlfriend Shona Ramsey, now Platt, being led away from a church by vicar Billy Mayhew.

This left fans of the drama to fear the worst for Shona, who made it clear Nathan, her ex-partner was bad news. While she recalled her time with the devious character, she admitted to ending their romance and promptly leaving Nathan due to his behaviour. Billy Mayhew eventually found her while she was sleeping in the rough and offered her a place to stay while Nathan remained on her tail.

But Shona was quickly pushed aside when Nathan found an unconscious 16-year-old Bethany Platt in an alleyway and carried her to the hospital for treatment. Once she recovered from a diet pill overdose, the teen was keen to find her good Samaritan to thank him for saving her and after mistakenly thanking cabbie Tyrone Dobbs, she tracked Nathan down to his tanning salon, blissfully unaware she was in for her biggest ordeal yet.

Bethany was at the core of a hard-hitting storyline tackling rape, grooming, sexual abuse and human trafficking as she struck up a friendly bond with Nathan who offered her a job and an opportunity to film vlogs for her growing social media presence.

The pair quickly became romantically involved and Nathan pushed the young girl to move in with him, proposing to her soon after, gaining further control over her – and introducing her to partners in crime Ian Yardley and corrupt copper Neil Clifton, who ended up assaulting her.

After gruelling weeks during which he even tried to have Bethany transported to Belgium, Nathan was finally brought to justice and while he initially succeeded in portraying himself as a victim, Bethany’s lawyer made him crack when she questioned him about his debts to Ian and their associates. The trio of men were handed custodial sentences as they were found guilty of raping Bethany and conspiracy to commit rape. But could he have resorted to his old antics?
