Corrie star Samia Longchambon on bullying hell that made her ‘not bottle things up’

EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street beauty Samia Longchambon has spoken out about her own horrific bullying ordeal as a child as her on-screen son Liam Connor hits rock bottom

Coronation Street favourite Samia Longchambon has opened up about her own bullying ordeal ahead as onscreen son Liam takes matters into his own hands.

Over the past few weeks, ITV fans have been gripped to their screens as school bully Mason Radcliffe (played by Luca Toolan) has wreaked havoc at Weatherfield High School. Viewers have watched Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) and Dylan Wilson (Liam Mccheyne) be terrorised by the high schooler ever since he arrived on the Street.

After months of bullying his fellow students, Mason has built quite a reputation for himself both inside and outside the school grounds. Arguably, the student most struggling with his arrival is Liam who has been bullied by him every day.

Now, the Maria Connor star has shared her own experience with bullying in her childhood as things take a turn for the worse for Liam. Speaking to Daily Star and other press, she confessed: “If I’m completely honest, I was bullied throughout my childhood at different times.

“I was bullied a little bit at primary school and then I was bullied at high school as well. So I can only go off how it was for me, and I think that it’s important to talk to people, to not bottle things up and to tell them.

“Even as much as people are scared of being a snitch and all the stigma attached to that. The bigger picture is that you just need to tell an adult, you need to tell your friends, you just need to keep talking.”

It comes after the blonde bombshell admitted that she spent “all day crying” with her co-star Charlie Wrenshall – who plays her on-screen son Liam Connor – during some of her heartbreaking scenes.

The 41-year-old opened up about her relationship with the youngster, gushing: “It’s really emotional. Charlie’s just been incredible. He’s only 14 and it’s lovely because he’s played Liam since he was three, so we do have a really close relationship.

“I’ve known him pretty much all his life which makes those scenes easier and harder at the same time because we do have an emotional connection to each other. And it’s hard because my daughter is 14, the same as Charlie, and I’ve also got a son.

“And to think that either of them could go through something like that or any child in the whole country is horrible. You hear about it on the news when kids have ended their lives because of bullying.”

The actor went on to explain the emotional toll that performing these devastating scenes has on the cast. She pointed out: “It’s a real thing and as a parent, it’s horrible.

“It’s not a nice thing to think about and having to act it and go through it, your body doesn’t know that it’s not real. When we’re making ourselves cry and going through that, it’s exhausting.

“So me and Charlie have had days where we’ve just been crying all day to each other, like we’re exhausted by the end of the day.” Fans will have to stay tuned to see how Liam will overcome the intense bullying in the schoolyard.
