ITV Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt set for danger in shocking new storyline
Lucy Fallon recently teased that her Corrie alter ego Bethany will be involved in a new dramatic storyline. This Sunday, it was confirmed that she could even be risking her life.
Bethany Platt’s death could be sealed as she’s set to endure a gruelling and life-threatening ordeal with sepsis in a new storyline.
Actress Lucy Fallon, who has portrayed the character since 2015, reprised her role in Coronation Street earlier this year, returning to the cobbles for the first time since leaving Weatherfield for a promising job in London.
Since she has returned, Bethany was notably said to be facing money woes and, later on, she was dealt a huge blow with the return of her abuser Nathan Curtis (played by Christopher Harper) following his incarceration. This led her to be somewhat involved in the search for missing Lauren Bolton as she remains convinced Nathan is involved.
But with the teen portrayed by Cait Fitton resurfacing alive and pregnant on the cobbles, with Joel Deering’s downfall looming on the horizon, Bethany is set for an explosive storyline of her own and she will be fighting for her life as she contracts sepsis.
Bethany will soon become increasingly insecure about her physical appearance and will make the decision to go abroad for a life-changing surgery, without considering any of the risks.
Unfortunately, she will quickly find out as Bethany is set to develop the dangerous infection following the dodgy operation and she will be rushed to hospital. A TV source told The Sun that the storyline comes as a new challenge for Lucy: “It’s a really meaty storyline for Lucy to get her teeth into.”
“Dodgy cosmetic surgery is a big issue and it can have catastrophic side effects and the hope is that this storyline will make people more aware of that. But for Lucy it gives her something really dramatic to play and that’s when she’s at her best. It’s really going to hit viewers when the Platts realise just how ill Bethany is.”
This comes after the soap star announced she was pregnant with her second child and she’s expected to leave the Manchester-based soap once again for her maternity leave. Lucy, 28, took to Instagram to reveal she’s halfway through her pregnancy with her footballer partner, Ryan Ledson. She appeared alongside her son, Sonny Jude, one, who was seen carrying her pregnancy ultrasound scans.
In a video shared on the social media platform in August, 2024, Lucy and Ryan could be seen with Sonny Jude sitting in their living room as they flicked through books before she showcased her blossoming baby bump.
