Coronation Street fans predict beloved couple will become ‘new Jack and Vera’
CORONATION Street fans have high hopes for one couple, claiming they will become the ‘new Jack and Vera’.
The iconic Jack (Bill Tarmey) and Vera Duckworth (Liz Dawn) appeared in the ITV soap from the 1970s to their final appearance in the 2010s.
Viewers think David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Shona (Julia Goulding) Platt could be on their way to emulate the legendary duo.
Taking to Reddit, one person wrote: “The scene in last night’s Corrie with Shona and David in the cafe gave me very strong vibes of Jack and Vera in the way they clearly love each other but wind each other up.
“Will David suddenly get some pigeons? There’s a thought.”
Another added: “Very possible. They already have him being kooky with his stuffed weasel and David the dog, so it wouldn’t be far off!”
As a third remarked: “I can definitely see that happening! What comes to mind is that Jack and Vera took in somebody else’s son, and he became their surrogate child.
“Purely out of the kindness of their hearts. David has taken on Max, despite the fact that he is not his biological son, and continued to raise him even after Kylie died.
“Both the Duckworths and Shona have got horrible biological sons who are unfit to be parents.”
A fourth shared: “I can see that actually. I had Steve and Tracy and Fiz and Tyrone pegged for the new Jack and Vera for awhile.
“However each of those couples only ever hit one note as a couple for a satisfactory J & V dynamic.
“David and Shona hit, loving, comedy and infuriating.”
David and Shona have been together since 2016 when she arrived in Weatherfield.
The pair married in 2019 and are raising David’s adoptive son Max (Paddy Bever) and his daughter Lily (Brooke Malonie) together.
In their time together, they’ve withstood storms including David’s rape by Josh Tucker to Shona suffering memory loss.
Meanwhile, Jack and Vera‘s complex, rocky marriage was a cornerstone of Coronation Street for decades.
In 2008, the character of Vera was killed off after Liz Dawn chose to leave.
Ultimately, Bill Tarmey’s exit as Jack followed just two years later.
Liz Dawn returned for her onscreen husband’s exit, in moving scenes showing the characters reuniting as Jack passed away.
