Corrie Billy’s new lover ‘revealed’ after Paul death – but actor has request for bosses
Coronation Street's Billy Mayhew has had a tough time of it recently following the death of his beloved husband Paul Foreman - but could he be set to find love again?
Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank has dropped hints about a possible new romance brewing for his character, the much-loved Billy Mayhew.
Ever since arriving in Weatherfield in 2014, Billy has become a solid favourite among viewers and has weathered everything from murder to battling drug demons.
Billy hasn’t just faced intense drama; he’s also had a string of romantic entanglements with characters such as Todd Grimshaw (played by Gareth Pierce) and his late husband Paul Foreman (portrayed by Peter Ash).
Unfortunately, tragedy struck as Billy recently suffered the devastating loss of Paul, who had been grappling with MND (motor neurone disease) since last year. The heartache unfolded on-screen as ITV viewers watched Paul initially lose his grip strength, leading to a neurologist referral. As time went on, his condition worsened, affecting his speech and mobility, reports the Express.
Paul then became confined to his flat, rendered immobile without the use of his stairlift. His storyline reached a tear-jerking climax this week with Paul’s death on Monday (September 9).
Looking ahead, actor Daniel has opened up about the potential for Billy finding love again after Paul’s passing. Chatting with Express among others, Daniel shared his desires for Billy’s future heading into 2025, remarking: “I’d really like some comedy that would be nice.”
Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew, has hinted at a possible new romance for his character, saying: “Billy and old women, that would work well! Maybe like a knitting club, book club or maybe a choir? ! But I think Billy and Sally Metcalfe would be an amusing couple. But yeah, a little bit of comedy next year would be nice.”
When asked if Billy could find love again soon, Daniel replied: “Maybe, yeah.” He also jokingly issued a request to the soap bosses and writers. He said: “I mean, if they decide to bring me in a 27-year-old Spanish window cleaner, it would be a stretch, but I would do my very best!”
However, Daniel also hinted that Billy’s storyline could take a darker turn, referencing his character’s past struggles with addiction. When asked if Billy could go off the rails again, Daniel said: “Hopefully not to the heroin extent! He did go off the rails a little bit, but hopefully not to shooting up in the aisle of a church extent like we saw it before.” He added: “Billy’s good in a crisis if it’s not his crisis.”
