Billy Mayhew faces more loss after unwelcome news following Paul Foreman’s death in Coronation Street

Billy wakes up on the first day after Paul's death in Corrie

Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) has suffered a devastating loss in recent Coronation Street scenes following the death of husband Paul Foreman (Peter Ash).

However, his pain is set to continue when he learns that Living Aids, the company who provided Paul’s wheelchair and synthesiser, want to pick them up.

Billy is thrown into a panic, as he has yet to download Paul’s voice recordings – something that he is desperate to keep in order to remember his beloved.

Will he be able to download it all in time?

Later, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) pops round to inform Billy that Paul’s body is at the undertakers if he wants to visit and spend some time with him.

Things only get worse for Billy when it comes to planning Paul’s funeral, as he soon clashes with Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) about the service.

‘They are obviously quite different in their approach to life and subsequently therefore death as well,’ actor Daniel Brocklebank told Metro.co.uk.

Bernie and Billy argue about the funeral in Coronation Street

‘They’re both grieving for somebody that they love, but both of them think they’ve got dibs on grief stakes, one as a mum and one as a husband.

‘Billy’s very traditional. The funeral’s coming up – Billy wants hymns, Bernie wants pop songs, Billy wants a hearse, Bernie wants something else. There is conflict over the next few weeks.’

As an archdeacon, Billy wants to hold a religious service for Paul, who was christened last year, but Bernie is against the idea.

‘There’s quite a lot of tension between the fact that he thinks Paul should be having a Christian burial and she ain’t having none of that!’ Jane Hazlegrove explained.

‘She’d rather do something more Pagan perhaps. There will be a clash and a lock of horns.’
