Coronation Street fans rage as another couple splits up on the cobbles

CORONATION Street fans have been left raging as yet another soap couple has split up – and this time it’s Ryan and Daisy on the chopping block.

Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott ) and Daisy Midgeley’s (Charlotte Jordan) relationship has been on the rocks in recent weeks and Ryan was keen for the couple to move forward in their relationship, but he could sense something was holding Daisy back.

Ryan hoped to move in with Daisy, feeling it was the natural next step in their relationship. However, Daisy kept putting him off, claiming that working and living together would be too much for them.

However, on Friday’s (September 20) episode of Coronation Street, Ryan made it clear that he was willing to change jobs, but Daisy tried to dissuade him, leading to a huge revelation.

Ryan realised Daisy still has feelings for her former fiancé and baby daddy Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

Confronting her about his suspicions, he said: “This is why you don’t want to move in together, isn’t it? Because you’ve still got feelings for him.

He added: “You know, I think I’ve known from the start, but I just think I thought if I ignored it [it would go away].”

Realising that she was going to lose Ryan, Daisy pleaded: “There is nothing to ignore.”

“I would never cheat on you,” she insisted, despite admitting she still has a “connection” with Daniel because of Bertie.

But Ryan responded by asking Daisy if she’d made Daniel the same promise before she cheated on him.

Later, Ryan apologises but admitted he feared she loved Daniel more than him so ended their relationship for good.

Daisy was left in tears as Ryan walked away after she professed her love to him.

However, she later made a huge confession to her stepmum Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) admitting that Ryan was correct — she still had feelings for Daniel.

“I never stopped loving Daniel,” she revealed.

Ryan and Daisy’s shocking split is not the first to rock the cobbles this year.

Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) and Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger)’s blooming relationship came to an abrupt end earlier this summer.

ITV fans were left raging at the scenes, and feel their breakup is a sign of a much bigger problem on the soap.

Discussing their viewers in an online soap forum, one fan said it was difficult to root for their relationship because they barely had any screen time together as a couple.

“In the run up to getting together, Daisy and Ryan were heavily involved in major storylines and frequently on screen. Since they become a couple, they’ve hardly been shown together, and now that they are, they’re breaking up.”

“This is too common with modern Corrie couples,” they added. “It’s difficult to be invested in any of these people if we never see them enjoying themselves together.”

“It’s a major problem corrie has right now they try to run without walking,” another fan agreed. “They just don’t do the everyday scenes that act as building blocks for characters and make the audience care and invest in them.”

“They can’t just put two characters together have them off screen for months then expect the audience to care when the split up,” they added, admitting they would have liked to have seen more of Ryan and Daisy’s “everyday routine” before their split.

A third fan agreed that “this has been a problem” for years. “The current regime just can’t or won’t write everyday scenes for couples, which should be the very bedrock of a soap,” they fumed.

While a fourth added: “It seems that there’s so much investment in the drama of the chase that they’ve got no energy left to invest in a couple once they’ve got together. Apart from bloody Gemma and Chesney of course.

“I felt Sarah and Adam had the same treatment. You’d think a relationship that joins up two of the Street’s highest profile families would deserve a little more attention,” they said of Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) and Sarah Platt (Tina Michelle O’Brien) who split last year.

Ryan and Daisy’s relationship began after the pair went through a lot of shared trauma, including Ryan’s acid attack which Daisy supported him through.

During their breakup scene, Daisy admitted that she couldn’t stay away from Ryan at the beginning as she was so drawn to him, but this led her to cheat on Daniel with Ryan.

When Daniel found out it led to a messy breakup, with Ryan firmly in the middle.

But in the wake of their split, will Ryan and Daisy be drawn together once more or will Daisy rekindle her romance with Daniel?

And what will this mean for Daniel’s relationship with Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon)? The pair will be at the centre of drama in upcoming scenes as Bethany’s life will be at risk due to a botched cosmetic surgery procedure.
