Coronation Street’s Bethany receives cash injection after hospitalisation – from an unexpected source

Bethany looks scared as Sarah tries to comfort her in Corrie

Someone unexpected has stepped forward to support Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) in Coronation Street, following her botched surgery in Turkey.

At the beginning of August, Metro.co.uk exclusively revealed the topical story for Bethany, which saw her accept a job offer promoting a private clinic in Istanbul.

After going under the knife, things took a disastrous turn when the liposuction procedure went wrong, and she developed sepsis.

When her mum Sarah (Tina O’Brien) flew over to join Bethany’s boyfriend Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), she was furious to learn that he had ignored multiple calls about her condition while he was with his ex Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) – meaning they could’ve got to her bedside sooner.

Later, the doctors broke some life-changing news.

The dodgy procedure had caused considerable damage to her bowel, and as a result she had been fitted with a stoma bag that she’d need to use for life.

To make matters worse, her insurance wouldn’t cover the dilemma, as she had failed to declare her lipo plans.

This meant that her surgery was totalling £15,000, with every further day she was hospitalised adding £2,000 to the bill.

Daniel set up a fundraiser in the hope he could secure the cash, but in tonight’s episode it seemed a substantial financial source had been secured.

Sarah called her ex-husband Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) and explained that she’d tried to secure a loan from her bank but they’d turned her down.

Desperate to hear whether any other companies could offer her one, she asked him to access her voicemails remotely as her network wouldn’t allow her to listen to them from Turkey.

As Adam sifted through the messages, a familiar voice was heard… that of Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths).

Viewers of the ITV soap will remember that the character was sent to prison earlier this year after taking part in a robbery. Prior to this, he tried to turn his life around and commit to a relationship with Sarah.

In his message, he explained that he’d heard about Bethany’s predicament and had some money set to one side in a lock-up that could be accessed.

Adam put the phone down, and later we heard from David (Jack P. Shepherd) that he’d made a sizeable donation – £500 – to the crowdfund.

Later, when Sarah called to thank him for listening to her voicemails, he didn’t mention Damon.

Has Adam stolen the money, or is he looking out for his former step-daughter using his own readies?
