Coronation Street spoilers: Daniel Osbourne is staggered by a huge betrayal from Bethany Platt

Bethany talks to Daniel over lunch in Coronation Street

When Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) turned up unexpectedly in Coronation Street on New Year’s Eve, it was not long at all before she’d found her way back into the affections of Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

Fresh from his heartbreak over fiancée Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan)’s betrayal of him with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott), Daniel was only too happy to rekindle the relationship he’d previously had with Bethany.

But since her return it’s become apparent that Bethany has been keeping a few secrets about her reasons for leaving That London and coming back to Weatherfield. Her journalism career has clearly not been going as well as she’d like everyone to believe and she’s in financial difficulties.

This leads her to take some covert action in future episodes as she tries to earn some money by writing a sensationalist piece for Chit-Chat, a gossip magazine. All about Daniel, Daisy and Ryan.

Her first move is to try to get Daniel to give her some of the juicy details by asking him about when Daisy was cat-fishing Ryan by pretending to be Crystal (Erin Austen). Daniel won’t discuss it, so Bethany comes up with plan B.

Offering to give Lauren (Cait Fitton) an English lesson, she takes the opportunity to engage her in conversation about the Daniel/Daisy/Ryan triangle, and Lauren is only too happy to tell everything she knows – unaware that Bethany is recording the conversation.

Then Bethany gets to work crafting an article that might make her a bit of money, but is guaranteed to infuriate Daniel – and Daisy.

Obviously Daniel is not the type to read Chit-Chat unless they were running a French Existentialist Philosophers special because he’s an Intellectual, so possibly Bethany hopes he’ll never find out and no one will be harmed.

Until he answers her phone and it’s the editor of Chit-Chat who wants to chit-chat about Bethany’s latest article – and the subject matter sounds horribly close to home to Daniel.

How will he react to such a betrayal?
