Coronation Street’s Kimberly Hart-Simpson slams ‘vile’ cancer jokes as three loved ones battle disease

Former Coronation Street star Kimberly Hart-Simpson has warned people making ‘horrific jokes about cancer’ to stop after revealing her family battles in a now deleted Instagram post.

The actress, who played Nicky Wheatley on the ITV soap, shared a lengthy post online and thanked her followers for their support.

She penned: ‘Had some lovely messages. Thank you. Fig is now home and resting. It’s long road but he is fighting. He is not the only one. Amongst all the drama last night Auntie Pat went in for surgery.

‘She currently has two forms of cancer. She shares a house with three other people. 2 of which have recently had cancer or being treated for it. That is 3/4 people in one household fighting.

Kimberly then went on to say that she is sharing her story will help others going through the same thing.

She later encouraged her followers to ‘forgive all irrelevant hangups. Phone the person you were saying you would.’

Kimberly concluded her post: ‘P.s I am seeing a lot of horrific jokes online about cancer in light of recent news. Stop that. It’s vile.’

Kimberly’s former soap character Nicky, as viewers will recall, was introduced as a sex worker who Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) befriended in the wake of Sinead Tinker’s (Katie McGlynn) death.

The character became a recurring one and, after her initial stint came to an end, she was reintroduced as a teaching assistant at the school, which frustrated Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), who was dating Daniel at the time.

After her final appearance to date aired in July 2022, Kimberly clarified to fans that it wasn’t a case of her having left Corrie, but rather that her then-current storyline had come to an end.

‘If you watched Friday’s eps you will see there was no big leaving scene, so you never know for the future, but what I do know is this… I owe so much to Corrie, and I absolutely love it there — the people — the vibe — the street,’ she said.

‘Life happens in chapters — and I am looking forward to the next part.’
