Coronation Street Kit Green’s downfall ‘sealed’ in Joel murder as court scenes filmed

Kit Green was the latest Corrie resident to be suspected of murdering Joel Deering and while the theory awaits confirmation, production is gearing up some court drama.

Could Kit face trial for the murder of Joel Deering?

Filming for new court scenes have been underway in Bolton as Coronation Street bosses are lining up more drama to end the year.

The Greater Manchester town welcomed the ITV soap’s cast and crew on October 31, and November 1, 2024, as a Newton and Ridley truck was spotted near Le Mans Crescent, which is located near the Bolton Magistrates Court. And actress Georgia Taylor, aka Toyah Battersby in the long-running show, was seen on location.

Though details of the potential storyline have been kept under wraps, Bolton was previously used by bosses as a backdrop for the Seb Franklin trials, which involved Corey Brent being sentenced for the murder of Abi Webster’s son in 2021 and 2022.

Speaking to The Bolton News, a crew member on location confirmed that filming for Coronation Street was taking place but gave out no information about the potential storyline that was being filmed.

In recent scenes of the Manchester-based programme, viewers have been eager to see Joel Deering get comeuppance after preying on and terrorising young women in Weatherfield. However, when his body was found in the canal, soap fans knew his murderer would likely face justice themselves.

Since then, many have tried to figure out who Joel’s murderer could be and come up with a long list of suspects which includes the likes of Joel’s fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey as well as cafe owner Roy Cropper, among others.

But during Friday’s trip to the cobbles, a crucial piece of evidence was given to viewers as Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) was seen deleting evidence that could point him out as Joel’s murderer.

Viewers at home swarmed to Twitter, now X, at the time to share their thoughts, with one of them penning: “aaaaand nobody is surprised that kit is a bent copper. we literally saw it before with sarah planting evidence and the dodgy t-shirts lol could see that coming from a mile away #corrie”

Another added: “#Corrie I’m confused, was it’s Kit’s red car?”, while a third echoed: “So, Kit killed Joel?” A fourth chimed in: “Kit’s just deleted his own name off the vehicle records.”

“Sooooo Kit has a red car… knew he had something to do with it..”, another commented. “I said weeks ago that I reckon Kit was involved and tonight’s episode has definitely made me think that I could be right with my wild theory”, one final fan wrote.

To make matters worse, Kit was seen growing closer to Rovers Return barmaid Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), which could explain the Newton and Ridley truck as he may be trying to get his hands on the Corrie boozer. But if Kit was to be confirmed as Joel’s murderer and due to appear in court, how can Toyah’s presence be explained?

This leads to another potential scenario, which could see The Institute leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper), who brought trouble to Toyah and her sister Leanne (Jane Danson) this year. Back in September, after spending months under his spell, Leanne struck back and tricked the villain into revealing his guilt.

Rowan was arrested, before being charged with fraud and blackmail in connection to his role in the Altovalent Institute. This makes it likely that he could face justice for his crimes and, to top it all off, Rowan star Emrhys Cooper teased his alter ego could bring more trouble to Weatherfield residents.

“He hasn’t quite finished his naughty business yet”, he said during the Inside Soap Awards in October. “There might be a little bit more of a twist yet to see, so keep watching and you’ll soon see.” Who will be the accused? And how will the trial scenes really play out?
