Another Coronation Street return confirmed as star reprises role
Coronation Street fan favourite Matt Milburn is reprising his Tommy Orpington role this spring.
The star has appeared intermittently since October 2016 as the former professional footballer, last stepping on the cobbles in July last year.
Tommy, who retired and became a painter and decorator, was hired by Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) to breathe new life into her bedroom.
And he did just that!
Before long, the two were engaging in a steamy affair – a move which understandably devastated her Weathy County-mad husband Steve (Simon Gregson) when he found out.
We’re not entirely sure whether that was because of his love for Tracy, or Tommy…
Soon after, Tommy announced that he’d secured a new job working as a footy coach in Spain and the pair left for pastures new.
Tracy has returned on a number of occasions since, with it becoming apparent that the grass wasn’t exactly greener on the other side.
Nevertheless, she revealed last week that as his job contract was ending, he would soon be arriving back in the UK and had secured them a plush Cheshire property to live in.
Metro understands that actor Matt is ‘delighted’ to reprise the role after starring in a Cinderella pantomime at Billingham’s Forum Theatre in Billingham, Teesside over Christmas.
A source told The Sun that the reprisal is part of a ‘short stint’ before ‘going again.’
Will he and Tracy make amends?
The news comes after yesterday’s announcement of two new nightmare neighbours – Mick and Lou Michaelis (Joe Layton and Farrel Hegarty) who move into Mawdsley Street next month.
They’ll initially make friends with Chesney and Gemma Winter-Brown (Sam Aston and Dolly-Rose Campbell) before it is revealed that Mick is the man who has taunted poor Ches’ in his silver van in recent months.
Not only that, but they’re about to expose a huge secret from Kit Green’s (Jacob Roberts) past.
Katy Cavanagh will also be making a welcome return to the cobbles as Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) half-sister Julie Carp.
Whilst the exact details of her comeback are yet to be revealed, we do know that it will coincide with Sue’s exit after 25 years in the role.
A number of cast are also set to leave – following in the footsteps of Gail Platt icon Helen Worth at Christmas.
Charlotte Jordan, who plays feisty barmaid Daisy Midgeley, will bow out at the end of her current storyline, whilst Max Turner star Paddy Bever is also departing.
Shelley King, who joined as Yasmeen Metcalfe eleven years ago will also make an exit in coming months.
Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) has been axed by new Corrie producer Kate Brooks, alongside the incomparable Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), with Metro exclusively revealing that she will be diagnosed with dementia ahead of her heartbreaking final plot.
