CORONATION Street fans fear a beloved couple are set to split after spotting a worrying sign.
A number of couples have been going through hard times lately, with Nina Lucas and Asha Alahan splitting up, and Tracy Barlow cheating on husband Steve McDonald with Tommy Orpington.
In the past week, tensions have risen between Leanne Battersby and partner Nick Tilsley, after Leanne’s adopted son Simon crashed a car while Nick’s son Sam was a passenger.
Leanne hid the fact Simon had been drinking from Nick, and he was furious when he found out.
After delivering an ultimatum that Simon had to go or he and Sam would, viewers saw Nick look at an engagement ring he had in his pocket.
During Wednesday’s Valentine’s episode, Leanne’s sister Toyah let slip to her that Nick had planned to propose before the Simon drama had kicked off, leaving her stunned.
With it being a leap year, Leanne decided to propose to Nick, getting down on one knee and popping the question.
Nick didn’t look overjoyed by the moment, but after a pause, said yes.
However, Leanne picked up on the hesitation and joked he had kept her waiting, before the pair hugged.
But as the camera panned to Nick’s face, it was clear something was amiss, and his brother David pressed him on it later.
Nick replied: “The truth is I nearly said no, there, happy now?”
David asked why and Nick said it was because of Simon, saying: “She knew about Simon’s drinking, she lied, Sam nearly died.”
His brother tried to tell him that as long as he and Leanne loved each other, that was all that mattered, but Nick’s face clearly showed that he didn’t fully agree.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – Coronation Street fans predicted further trouble ahead for the couple – who have been married twice before.
One wrote: “Yeah Nick doesn’t exactly look like someone who has just got engaged to the woman he loves.”
Another added: “Nick said yes but he really meant no, how Nick & Leeanne have lasted this long is a mystery.”
A third tweeted: “Nick and Leanne I know they say “third time lucky” but if the marriage didn’t work the first two times I’m not sure even an old wives tale will help you this time!”
Meanwhile a fourth shared: “Nick having doubts. Marrying Leanne (again) I can see why.”
The couple first married in 1998 after running away to Scotland but they split after Leanne fell pregnant and Nick asked her to have an abortion, put to pretend to everyone else that she had miscarried.
The pair tied the knot for a second time in January 2013 after a failed attempt to marry on Christmas Day 2012 after Leanne declared her feelings for ex-husband Peter Barlow.
However they split again following Nick’s brain injury after a car accident which had prompted him to lash out at Leanne.
Despite both having other relationships in the interim, the characters were drawn back together many times since 2016.
