Coronation Street is about to be met by another returning character, though his family have some bad news about him.

Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) recently took a trip down to Birmingham to visit wife Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw), but in his absence kids Michael and Dee-Dee (Ryan Russell and Channique Sterling-Brown) make an unfortunate discovery.

Dee-Dee is left disappointed in upcoming scenes when Michael shows her a final demand letter that has come through the post for Ed, and she is shocked to see how much he still owes.

Ed recently fell into severe debt due to a gambling addiction, with things getting so bad that he staged a robbery after pawning his family’s Christmas presents.

His addiction also led him to take out payday loans which he has been unable to pay back.

When the builder’s yard caught fire earlier this year, Michael feared that Ed had deliberately started it as part of an insurance scam.

Though Ed admitted that he had been responsible for the fire, he explained that it had been an accident after spilling some spirits.

Despite their initial anger at the situation, the family have since rallied round to support him, promising to help him deal with his debts.

When Ed returns home from Birmingham in upcoming scenes, he has some bad news of his own: Aggie has given him his marching orders and won’t be returning home.

Michael is left gutted, and quickly slides the final demand letter out of sight.

Will Ed find out how bad things are, or will Michael and Dee-Dee leave him in blissful ignorance?
