Bobby Crawford puts Coronation Street favourite in the frame for Lauren Bolton’s ‘murder’ – and it’s not Roy Cropper

Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) changes his statement in Coronation Street in a bid to rescue Roy Cropper (David Neilson) from a life of captivity, but he ends up implicating another Weatherfield resident in a crime!

Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), as viewers know, vanished without a trace earlier this year, with a subsequent police investigation leading authorities to believe that she’s been murdered.

Roy became prime suspect in the crime – yes, seriously – with Bobby’s statement to the police implicating the much-loved cafe owner.

It’s been a terrifying number of months for Roy and it’s only set to get worse, with bail being denied to Roy in upcoming scenes, meaning that he must languish behind bars while awaiting trial, much to the horror of his loved ones, who desperately hoped that he would be allowed to return home where he belongs.

Determined to right his wrongs, Bobby has an idea, with subsequent scenes seeing him summoned to the station for further questioning and it comes to light that he claimed to see an intruder in Lauren’s flat, one wearing a balaclava and a dark coat with a fur-trimmed hood.

DS Swain (Vicky Myers) isn’t pleased with what he has to say, reminding him that perverting the course of justice is a serious offence.

Bobby, however, perseveres with his new version of events, claiming it to be fact.

Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), however, overhears the new story and reveals that someone actually handed in a coat to the charity shop that matches the description of the one he’s mentioned!

Both she and Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) analyse the coat – and the jumpers that were left in along with it – finding a name tag.

Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) later receives a visit from DS Swain, who reveals that there has been a development and therefore she’d like to talk to him further.

Has Bobby accidentally put Daniel in the frame to save Roy?

That remains to be seen but matters are complicated further, with Daniel meeting with Nicky Wheatley (Kimberly Hart-Simpson).

Max Turner (Paddy Bever) follows the teacher and takes pictures of the meeting, telling Bobby that Daniel is clearly hiding something.
