Carla Connor devastated by horrific health news as character offers kidney in Coronation Street

Carla looks at Lisa from her hospital bed in Coronation Street

Carla Connor (Alison King) is devastated by further horrific health news in upcoming Coronation Street scenes – but another character could be set to save her.

In the new year, Carla is set to be rushed back into hospital with sepsis after Roy Cropper (David Neilson) finds her barely conscious on her living room floor.

It’s a terrifying situation for the factory boss, who is told the sepsis has damaged her kidney and she may need another transplant.

Thankfully, nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) is willing to step up and leaves Carla touched when he offers to donate his own kidney if it comes to it.

The next day, Carla is devastated when the doctor confirms that the damage to her kidney is severe, and she will need a transplant.

As Bobby and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) reel at the news, Ryan promises to get tested and, if he’s a match, also offers his kidney – though Carla refuses to let him.

Later, she is left wondering where Bobby has got to, unaware that he is on a mission to find her a new kidney – and there is one person he is hopeful will be a match…

Arriving at Highfield prison, Bobby approaches his dad, Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis), and leaves him stunned when he asks him to donate a kidney to his sister.

How will Rob respond?

This will mark the first time Rob has been on screen since 2017, when he briefly escaped prison and went on the run with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

Prior to that, he made an appearance in 2016, when he blackmailed Johnny Connor with the knowledge that he was Carla’s biological dad.

However, it’s been ten years since Rob was a resident on Coronation Street, having been jailed in 2014 for the murder of Tina McIntyre.

Rob’s return is certainly set to throw the cat among the pigeons for Carla, who is just settling into her new relationship with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

‘I love Rob and Carla,’ producer Kate Brooks told us. ‘I love tapping into their history together, and we really explore that through this story.

‘There’s so many twists and turns along the way, it’s really exciting. It’s going to be eventful for Carla and Lisa…’

In terms of whether or not Rob is a reformed character, Kate has warned us that things may not be that simple.

‘He made mistakes. He comes back to the show and we think he might be a reformed character who has seen the error of his ways, but whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know! He definitely comes back and causes a lot of trouble…’
