His Corrie pals, including Channique Sterling-Brown, who plays his on-screen love interest DeeDee Bailey, were quick to get in touch. She wrote: “Congratulations you gorgeous pair.” Lucy Fallon, Bethany Platt in the ITV soap added: “congratulations guys!!!!!”

Meanwhile Alex Bain, who recently left his role as Simon Barlow in the show, shared: “Congratulations lad! Absolutely wonderful news.” Callum recently joked about having a ‘real world girlfriend and a TV girlfriend’ as he shared a video of Roberta and Channique laughing together.

Prior to joining the cast, Callum was a car salesman – a job he previously admitted he “hated”. He confessed he thought he’d have to pack in acting after suffering setbacks in his career and failing to find long-lasting jobs. “I was selling cars while auditioning for Corrie and I hated it,” he said. “I thought, ‘It’s been 15 years, I’m going to have to drop it, nothing’s happening’.”

Callum arrived on Coronation Street as Joel back in 2023. The character was introduced as a duty solicitor helping Lauren Bolton, but he ended up becoming a permanent fixture in Weatherfield after striking up a romance with Dee-Dee Bailey. Things have taken a sinister turn in recent weeks after Joel was revealed to be Lauren Bolton’s killer.

Roy Cropper had initially been wrongly arrested, charged and the number one suspect for the supposed murder of missing teenager Lauren. However, last week, DS Lisa Swain and newcomer Kit thought they had cracked the case as they arrested abuser Nathan Curtis, who previously made Bethany Platt’s life a living misery and was recently released from prison.
