Coronation Street’s Joel Deering might be gone, but it’s not over for actor Calum Lill where villainous scenes are concerned.

He’s set to take on another baddie in his next role, weeks on from departing as the evil solicitor. Joel met a grisly end on Friday night, as a character killed him in brutal scenes.

His nasty side was exposed earlier this year as he was revealed to be grooming young girls, before he went on to attack and nearly kill Lauren Bolton. If that wasn’t enough, he then cruelly tried to kill her unborn child to cover up the fact that he was the father.

But on Friday night we saw his time on the show come to a grisly end, as Lauren hit him over the head with a brick and killed her tormentor. Her partner Max Turner was on hand to cover her tracks, shoving Joel’s lifeless body over a railway bridge and into the river, wanting to make his death appear as a suicide.

But while he can take a breather from all things Joel, actor Calum as another villainous role to contend with. Calum told The Mirror all about his next job post-Corrie, and he’s ready to be the baddie once more.

Calum will be playing the giant and in Jack and the Beanstalk in panto, taking place in Bournemouth. Fans will be able to see Joel himself back to it in December, with Calum teasing what the audience can expect from his latest role, and how it would differ from his Corrie stint.

He spilled: “I’m doing panto in Bournemouth, I’m playing the baddie in Jack and the Beanstalk. Obviously the baddie in Jack and the Beanstalk is the giant, I am not, so there’s a 3D giant and he’s got a normal human sized henchman in lycra and a green top hat, which will be me!

“I was reading the script the other day and my approach for Joel was like: ‘What’s he thinking? What’s he doing?’ I was listening to dark music and rocking in a corner. I was trying to do the same for this but then I was looking at a gag to the audience about magic beans vs baked beans and realised I don’t need to tear myself into pieces in a corner listening to scary music!

“I think it’s going to be a nice welcome break from attacking teenage girls. I’ve got an unbroken streak of playing villains. Maybe one day someone will give me the chance to play someone who’s not a baddie, we’ll see.”
