Coronation Street viewers will bid some emotional goodbyes this year as 2025 sees the iconic ITV soap undergo a major shake-up.

A handful of beloved characters will be exiting the cobbles to embark on new escapades or meeting their fate in nail-biting plotlines.

In a move that left viewers reeling, Helen Worth announced in June 2024 that after half a century, she’d be hanging up her shoes as the legendary Gail Platt.

Audiences were stunned as they watched her character sail off into the sunset for a fresh start with new beau Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson).

The new year ushers in even more familiar faces departing from Weatherfield, and not all are guaranteed their happily ever after, , reports Lancs Live.

Speaking out about his departure, Luca revealed: “Of course when I first heard there was a mixture of emotions because I was sad that Mason was going to die and that means I would be leaving, but equally I was really excited and honoured to be part of this storyline because it’s an incredibly important issue that needs to be tackled. I feel so privileged to have had this opportunity to start my professional career at Coronation Street and what a great time I’ve had.”

Eileen has been a staple of the Corrie family since 2000, with her storylines often revolving around her tumultuous love life. However, Sue has confirmed that she will be bidding farewell to the serial drama later this year.

In a statement, the soap icon expressed: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street. The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”

The Loose Women star confessed that she has “adored” her time on the show.

It’s thought that discussions about her departure began last summer after she took an extended break from the show to participate in the theatre production of Sister Act, playing Mother Superior.

I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world.”
