Coronation Street character rushed into emergency surgery in ITVX release – and hospital is blamed
This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Tonight’s dramatic instalment of Coronation Street saw Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) rushed to hospital when her waters broke.
The solicitor had been in hospital visiting Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) ahead of son Frankie’s transplant when she was struck with pain.
However, the nurse who examined her attributed it to the false labour pains she’d already been diagnosed with, and sent her home.
Back at the flat, it came as a terrifying shock to Dee-Dee when her waters broke, with her family rushing around to get her to the hospital.
Unfortunately, she found herself waiting for hours to be seen by a doctor, as other patients were prioritised over her, despite the pain she was clearly in.
After comments from nurses about how her body was built to deal with the pain of childbirth, Dee-Dee was finally taken seriously by a nurse who managed to find a doctor to treat her.
Having conducted some tests, the doctor reported that Dee-Dee was suffering from pre-eclampsia, and would need to have an emergency caesarean section.
Thankfully, the baby was healthy, though the same couldn’t be said for poor Dee-Dee.
Following the birth, Dee-Dee complained that she wasn’t feeling well, but her midwife brushed it off, insisting that it was normal to feel that way after giving birth.
Dee-Dee was sure that something wasn’t right, as she revealed that she could feel something wet around her lower half, though the midwife refused to get a doctor.
Moments later, Dee-Dee passed out and, after checking her over, the midwife called for emergency assistance.
Dee-Dee’s family were left with an anxious wait as she was rushed into emergency surgery, having suffered a haemorrhage.
Their anxiety only increased when no one had any information on Dee-Dee’s condition, leaving them completely in the dark.
As a doctor directed them to ask a midwife for updates, James Bailey (Jason Callender) grew frustrated, pointing out that none of them had any answers either.
Terrified for his sister’s wellbeing, James declared that if she died, it would be the fault of the hospital staff.
Will Dee-Dee pull through?
