The real father of Coronation Street’s beloved character Chesney Brown has been ‘unveiled’, and it turns out to be a familiar face from the cobbles.
Soap veteran Sam Aston, who portrays Chesney, first appeared on the ITV soap in 2003. He arrived on the scene with his mother Cilla (Wendi Peters) and sister Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), but the identity of his father remained a mystery.
Throughout the years, Chesney has found himself at the centre of numerous major storylines, particularly in recent months. In addition to grappling with the loss of his brother-in-law Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), Chesney has been battling financial difficulties.
As a father of five, Chesney has been putting in extra hours to support his family, even taking on additional shifts at the newly reopened kebab shop. However, Chesney was dealt a devastating blow last month with some heartbreaking news.
It was disclosed that Les Battersby (Bruce Jones) had passed away off-screen while working at an abattoir. Les made his debut on the soap in 1997 alongside his wife Janice (Vicky Entwistle), his daughter Leanne (Jane Danson), and stepdaughter Toyah (Georgia Taylor).
Following Janice and Les’ notorious breakup due to Janice falling for Dennie Stringer (Charles Dale), Les embarked on a new relationship with Chesney’s mum Cilla. The pair tied the knot in 2005 before eventually parting ways. Consequently, Les became a stepfather to Chesney and chose to adopt the young lad.
Last month, it was revealed that Les had died at work at an abattoir, leading Chesney on a quest to uncover the truth about his death. The plot thickened at Les’ wake when a co-worker of Les claimed that the company has a history of neglecting health and safety.

He also hinted at a possible cover-up, but Corrie fans are buzzing with theories as they reckon they’ve cracked a DNA bombshell as they’re convinced Chesney’s real father is none other than Les. On Reddit, one eagle-eyed fan posted: “What’s everyone’s thoughts on the Les Battersby conspiracy theory “, reports Lancs Live.
“That he’s secretly Chesney’s dad. I’m 99% sure it’s ‘true’,” they declared. Another added their two cents: “I’ve always said this.” A third chimed in with: “This is modern Corrie, things don’t have to make sense.” And yet another joined the fray: “I mean, if the writers want to mess around with Chesney then I can’t see why this theory can’t be ‘true’.”
