Coronation Street Christmas preview reveals return from the dead and violent showdown
It’s time to dust off those Christmas decorations and get into the festive spirit, because boy, do we have a present for you! That’s right – it’s time for those highly anticipated Coronation Street Christmas spoilers.
While we unbuckle our belts to make room for yet another round of cheese this festive season, the residents of Weatherfield are set to be embroiled in drama, romance and betrayal…
Will it be a happy Christmas on the cobbles? On the surface, things look set to be merry and bright – but there’s always something sinister bubbling underneath in the world of soap…
With departures, arrests, health scares and proposals, Corrie is certainly seeing us into the New Year with a bang!
A Battersby Brawl
One Coronation Street legend is left facing jail this Christmas – and we don’t mean the ship name for Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson) and Gail Platt (Helen Worth).
Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is out for serious revenge after discovering Toyah Battersby’s (Georgia Taylor) relationship with Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).
Toyah is left shocked this Christmas when DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) arrests her for theft and fraud by abuse of trust.
As she protests her innocence to Nick, she asserts that Leanne must be setting her up – but who will he believe?
When Leanne later finds presents from Nick to Toyah, she decides to up the ante by taking them to the police station and telling Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) that she believes Toyah and Nick were in it together.
It’s not Christmas without a family argument, and with the police having returned to question Toyah and Nick, it isn’t long before a violent Battersby brawl is on the cards!
When Nick uncovers evidence that may prove Leanne was behind Toyah’s fake account, could she be set to be the one facing prison time instead?
A happy ending for Gail?
Speaking of #Jail, everything is set for Jesse and Gail to have their fairytale wedding on Christmas Day – but will everything go to plan?
With the Platt family at war, there is certainly drama ahead – but will it ruin Gail’s big day?
Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) remains dead set against the idea of Gail marrying Jesse, and gives her a serious ultimatum.
The night before the wedding, still considering her options, Gail receives a mysterious visitor, but will they be able to advise her?
With Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) set to return to the soap this festive season, could he be Gail surprise visitor?
Whatever the outcome of the wedding, this Christmas will see Helen Worth bow out of the ITV soap after an impressive 50 years as the Platts enter a new era without Gail.
Cassie’s cruel plot
From one Corrie stalwart to another, Ken Barlow (William Roache) is delighted by a Christmas gift from Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), but how will he react when she turns on the tears and admits wracking up huge debts buying gifts for the family the next day?
As Cassie makes out to Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) that she fancies Ken, how will the iconic villain react?
When Tracy learns that Cassie has had an advance on her wages, she tells Amy and Steve (Elle Mulvaney and Simon Gregson) to keep an eye on her.
However, the father and daughter think she’s worried about nothing. Will they regret not following Tracy’s hunch?
Betrayal for the Platts
Meanwhile, David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) marriage to Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) is at breaking point, following a series of secrets, lies and betrayals.
Not only has David lied about Shona’s son Clayton, but he’s also hidden money from dangerous gangster Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor).
Shona hasn’t exactly come out of the situation smelling of roses either, having got her own back by cheating on David.
Shona’s night of passion with dodgy detective Kit has so far slipped David’s notice thanks to his obsession with putting a stop to Jesse and Gail’s nuptials, but he soon grows suspicious over the Christmas period.
Piecing together the evidence, he wrongly assumes that Shona spent the night with Adam, and a confrontation between the two of them sends the solicitor tumbling down the stairs.
Following the incident, David finds himself on the wrong side of Kit – but will he realise that he was the man Shona cheated with?
Carla’s Christmas confession
With their new relationship going from strength to strength, Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) have a cosy Christmas planned.
Sounds positive!
However, with troublesome Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) on hand to make things difficult, Lisa’s suspicions regarding Becky’s murder inquiry mounting and Carla’s health set to take a worrying turn, it may not be the magical festive season they were hoping for…
Things get off to a bad start when Betsy leaves Lisa mortified with a sarcastic comment following Carla’s announcement of their relationship to the Underworld staff.
It only gets worse when a pipe bursts in her flat, though Carla is on hand to give her somewhere to stay for New Year.
Next in their series of unfortunate events, Lisa is called to an urgent incident, which she emerges from with a split lip and bruised face, having been forced to call in backup.
She is determined not to let it ruin the mood however, and as the countdown to midnight begins Carla drops the L bomb – but how will Lisa respond?
January brings fresh challenges for the couple as Lisa makes headway on the case surrounding Becky’s death, unaware that Carla has been hospitalised with sepsis and may need another kidney transplant.
A festive proposal
Elsewhere, Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) is determined to make it a Christmas to remember for Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), who has had a difficult year after botched liposuction left her needing a stoma.
But when he gets down on one knee in a romantic Christmas Day proposal, is his mind totally on Bethany, or is he still harbouring feelings for ex-fiancée Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan)?
Determined to move on after their recent kiss, Daisy calls at the builder’s yard flat to cut all ties with Daniel – but will she keep to her promise?
Even more drama on the cobbles…
Elsewhere, frightened Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) must decide how to plead as she faces the courts for murdering Joel Deering, all while worrying about baby Frankie’s health.
Meanwhile, Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) decides to take her life in a new direction by applying to read law at university. She is stunned when she receives an interview, but her chances may be in jeopardy when she runs into a familiar face…
