Coronation Street confirms chilling secret for Bernie as an ex walks back into her life

Bernie and Denny outside the cafe in Coronation Street

Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) gets the shock of her life in Coronation Street soon as she comes face to face with Denny, the father of Paul (Peter Ash) and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell).

The timing of this isn’t exactly perfect, as Bernie is currently in the middle of helping to care for Paul, who has motor neurone disease.

In upcoming episodes, Paul is given a pleasant distraction from his illness as he prepares for a radio interview with Amy (Elle Mulvaney).

As the chat gets underway, Paul talks passionately about his MND and society’s lack of regard for disability in general. However, he gets a little bit carried away and ends up swearing live on air!

Denny faces Bernie outside the cafe in Corrie

Later in the week, a man approaches Bernie outside the cafe and reveals he heard Paul on the radio and didn’t realise his son was dying.

Bernie covers her shock, but then says Paul is already dead and the interview was a recording. In disbelief, Denny follows her up to the flat where Gemma and Paul are shocked to see their father.

As Bernie – who is also worrying about a secret from her past – lets off steam to Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) about her ex, Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) reminds Paul that his dad used to hit him when he was younger.

Billy is convinced Denny cannot be trusted, but is forced to leave him and Paul to it when they sit down and watch a film together.

As Denny nips out for ice cream, he bumps into Gemma and is eager to meet his grandchildren.

With Paul alone in the flat, he has a coughing fit and struggles to breathe. He calls for an ambulance but when the operator answers, Paul drops the phone.

Denny returns and is shocked to find Paul barely conscious, but how will Paul’s loved ones react to this latest development?

Is Denny someone who cannot be trusted, or has he changed?
