This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Coronation Street fans were left on the edge of their seats last week when DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) asked girlfriend Carla Connor (Alison King) to marry her.

It had been a traumatic day for Lisa, as she learnt of the brutal attack on Craig Tinker, and his subsequent death.

After maintaining a professional façade while interrogating his killer, Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), Lisa broke down once safely at home.

With emotions running high, Lisa questioned why people put off doing the things they really want, before asking Carla to marry her.

In tonight’s episode, the unexpected outcome of Lisa’s proposal was revealed: Carla said no!

Though Carla insisted that it hadn’t been an outright ‘no’, just that it was bad timing, Lisa was still clearly reeling from the rejection.

With Lisa eager to get to work, Carla asked her to meet for lunch at the Bistro, where they finally sat down and had a proper conversation about their relationship.

Carla was eager to know if Lisa truly wanted to marry her, and when she confirmed that she did, the factory boss pointed out that it was a big leap to take.

Lisa, who didn’t particularly want to have the conversation in the first place, grew defensive, until Carla managed to talk her round.

As Carla assured Lisa that she loved her and could definitely see them getting married in future, she explained that she wanted the proposal to come from love instead of grief.

With both women back on the same page, will we be waiting long for their official proposal, or could a wedding be on the cards sooner than we think?
