This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) plan to hide her dementia from her family was ruined in tonight’s episode when an unsuspecting relative stumbled across the letter from her neurologist.

The businesswoman was left devastated last week when a doctor revealedthat he suspected she had young-onset dementia.

In tonight’s episode, she attended her appointment with the neurologist, who did several tests to get a better idea of Debbie’s diagnosis.

However, Debbie didn’t leave with any definite answers, only a referral for an MRI.

Debbie was determined not to let her potential diagnosis stop her from living life to the full, and soon invited the whole family to the Chariot Square Hotel for an important announcement.

Viewers will remember that last week Debbie turned down a marriage proposal from Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), explaining that, although she loved him, she didn’t want to get married.

However, it seemed that her appointment with the neurologist had given her a change of heart, as she announced to her unsuspecting family that she was determined to live life to the full.

Debbie’s relatives were thrilled as she asked Ronnie to marry her, and were quick to celebrate when he accepted.

For brother Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), the celebrations were short-lived, as he was forced to leave the table to take a mysterious phone call, which didn’t seem to harbour good news.

Things only got worse when he searched in Debbie’s handbag for a pen, only to find her letter from the neurologist.

At the first opportunity he had to speak to Debbie alone, Carl questioned when she planned on telling her family that she may have dementia, leaving Debbie stunned.

She was quick to explain that nothing had been confirmed, and she was still undergoing preliminary tests, but Carl urged her to tell Ronnie the truth, especially given that she had just asked him to marry her.

Debbie explained that she didn’t want to upset him for no reason, so had planned to keep quiet until she knew more.

When Ronnie wandered into the conversation, Carl kept quiet, but will he keep Debbie’s secret for long, or could he be set to tell the family all about her diagnosis?
