Coronation Street convinced ‘hostage’ storyline is set to unfold after secret revealed

Corrie fans believe a hostage storyline is set to unfold as Dee-Dee Bailey discovers secret about her fiance

Coronation Street viewers have been left convinced that a hostage storyline is set to unfold after De-Dee Bailey discovers a secret about her fiancé Joel Deering.

Earlier this week fans saw Dee-Dee find out that Joel still kept hold of his flat when she went to visit the address – and discovered that another woman was living there. But at that time, she had not realised that it was in fact Lauren Bolton, who he abused and fathered a premature baby with.

Acting on her new-found information, Dee-Dee confronted Joel and quizzed him over the fact that he had not given his daughter the bracelet he said was for the tot. But in true villain style, Joel was able to wriggle out of her accusations. However, it looked as though Dee-Dee was not totally convinced of his account and walked out of their flat. And now, fans believe Joel’s mask will drop – fast tracking the hostage plot.

Taking to X, one fan said: “How long until we see Joel keeping DeeDee as hostage? Mark my words.” Another fan added: “DeeDee knows somethings up when her smile faded at the end of todays episode, now it’s time for her to escape the naughty Joel’s clutches!” Meanwhile a third person said: “Swain AND DeeDee now suspicious of Joel. Batten down the hatches.” And a fourth said: “Joel gives me the ick, that mask is slipping come on DeeDee.”

Their concerns comes after actress Channique Sterling-Brown, who plays Dee-Dee, revealed her fears for her character. She said: “The one thing I said to the producers at the start of this storyline was, ‘She’s not stupid and I don’t want her to look stupid’, and there’s this whole chapter where she is in the dark.” It’s been really important to establish this relationship because Joel has gotten to know Dee-Dee so well, which has allowed him to manipulate her to the best of his ability.”

She added: “A lot of people find themselves in situations where they’ve been deceived and we’ve got to do them justice by not just having them seem like a rose-tinted glasses type of person. As abusers and narcissists like Joel do, they ensure they have completely sold a different version of who they really are and that was really important for me to portray.”

Elsewhere in the ITV soap, Helen Worth’s exit storyline has been derailed after Sean Wilson reportedly quit the soap over personal reasons. Sean, who played Martin Platt from 1985 to 2005, was set to reprise his role on the show, to tie in with Gail Platt leaving after 50 years. Recent reports have said Sean was “summoned” to head office but even his co-stars have been left in the dark over what occurred before his departure.

A TV insider told The Sun: “It has come as a complete and utter shock to everyone – and his sudden exit has rocked everyone involved with Corrie. Sean was loving his time on the show, and he was very popular on set. He had filmed scenes with loads of the cast, but then suddenly he was summoned to head office, and later it filtered out he wouldn’t be returning or his scenes airing, but no explanation offered.”
