Coronation Street DS Swain’s link to Joel murder teased after worrying discovery
Coronation Street's Betsy Swain will fear her mother DS Lisa Swain is linked to Joel Deering's death next week on the ITV soap, as Carla Connor is also left suspicious
Coronation Street will tease a possible new suspect in Joel Deering’s murder next week, as two characters are left suspicious.
In scenes to air across Monday and Tuesday, it becomes apparent Lisa Swain is hiding something. Viewers know she is struggling with a mystery injury, and spoilers have revealed that this week, someone spots her bruises.
She’s forced to cover her tracks about how she got them, but what is really going on? When Carla Connor tries to support her pal and potential love interest, amid hints Swarla will rise, she’s left concerned by Lisa’s reaction.
Carla isn’t the only one who is worried though, as Swain’s daughter Betsy fears for her mum before making a potentially deadly discovery. It all kicks off this week when Swain is still investigating Joel’s murder despite being kicked off the case.
Her links to Joel see her determined to find the killer – but could she actually just be covering her own tracks? Viewers have long been convinced her injury is linked to Joel, so might she be his killer?

All we know is that Joel was murdered with a crowbar, suffering two fatal blows to the head before he fell or was pushed into a river. Suspects revealed so far include Dee-Dee, Ronnie and Ed Bailey and Betsy’s pal Mason Radcliffe.
Next week we will see Swain still hiding her injuries, or at least trying to, with her lying about them. As she confides in Carla about “failing Betsy”, she admits she doesn’t know if her and her daughter will be able to move forward.
Carla tells her she’s a great mum and hasn’t failed Betsy at all. As she comforts her, she places her arm around her only for Lisa to flinch and pull away, clearly in pain.
With Carla confused by the reaction and wondering what has happened, Lisa downplays it as her being tired and she soon flees. Later in the week, we see Betsy confiding in Mason about the bruises on Swain’s body.
He suggests she was injured during an arrest, with Betsy believing she is lying about hurting herself in the gym. With Mason having been questioned about Joel’s murder, Betsy curiously asks him when Joel is believed to have died.
When Mason tells her the date we see her look horrified, making a realisation. But what has Betsy discovered, and does it suggest Swain could be guilty?
