Coronation Street engagement twist in ITVX streaming release as fan-favourite pops the question
This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Devastating events on Coronation Street led to a surprising move from DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) tonight, as she decided to take control of her future.
The detective sergeant was rocked by news that PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) had died from the injuries he sustained earlier this week, and immediately threw herself into catching his killer.
Viewers will know that Craig was brutally attacked by Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), who struck him over the head with a baseball bat, leaving him for dead in the precinct.
Craig’s condition deteriorated after he arrived in hospital, and with doctors unable to revive him, he was pronounced dead, leaving Lisa with a murder case to solve.
After putting on a brave face all evening while delivering justice to Craig’s killer, Lisa couldn’t hide her devastation any longer, and broke down in girlfriend Carla Connor’s (Alison King) arms as soon as she got home.
Craig’s death had clearly put things into perspective for Lisa, who lamented that he’d put his career first, meaning that he’d died without the chance of starting a family.
She began to question what they’d have done differently if they knew it was their last day on earth, pointing out that both Craig and her late wife Becky had believed they had more time.
Fans will recall that Becky was also killed while on duty, after being mowed down by a getaway car.
As Lisa questioned why people put off doing the things they really want, Carla pointed out that it would be impossible to live as if every day was their last without burning out.
However, Lisa was determined to make the most of every moment, and took a huge leap by asking Carla to marry her.
Carla was understandably taken aback by Lisa’s sudden proposal, but how will she respond?
