Coronation Street fans say ‘watch this space’ as they rumble when Joel Deering leaves

Coronation Street viewers reckon they’ve sussed out exactly when villain Joel Deering will take his final bow from the ITV drama, following whispers that actor Calum Lil plans to say farwell after a year’s stint on the show.

Joel’s devious actions haven’t gone unnoticed by fans as he’s been manipulating and preying on young women, not to mention his nearly successful attempt to off Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Audiences were on the edge of their seats when he secretly doctored poor Lauren aiming to terminate her pregnancy, however, his wicked plan fizzled out as she gave birth prematurely, and the tot miraculously pulled through.

But it looks like Joel’s dirty deeds are about to catch up with him, as his soon-to-be wife Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) starts doubting his fibs and discovers that Joel is indeed baby Frankie’s dad.

News has broken that Calum is ditching his Joel cap, and viewers are buzzing that this signals Joel’s swan song is nigh, possibly peaking during the notorious “super soap week” in October, reports the Manchester Evening News.

One sleuth took to Reddit, venting: “Boy have they dragged this out…. It feels like the Lauren/Joel storyline has gone on for more than half a year. It looks like things are unravelling a bit now but I still think it’ll be dragged out even further until super soap week (first week of Oct). What do you think? Will it go on for much longer? “.

Eager for resolution, another joined in: “I sure hope so! ! I’m hoping they don’t cook up another diversion, and another and another so that it drags for another 3 months.”

An eager fan took to X, previously known as Twitter, to speculate: “I believe during the #SuperSoapWeek the Joel storyline comes to a conclusion in October, but it could change as #Corrie recently had a change of personnel so storylines might be continued further! Just watched this space.”

Calum, who’s been stirring emotions with his potential departure from the soap, shared his feelings: “I think it’s bittersweet for me,” he admitted to the press. “As an actor, it’s getting more and more juicy, but as soon as this comes to a climax, I leave this incredible place filled with so many people I’ve come to know and love and been some of my best friends over the last 18 months.”

He added, “I’m very excited to get to the end of the story, but it will be very bittersweet because it’s the most incredible place to work.”

In a thrilling career move, Calum has snagged the role of the dastardly Fleshcreep in the upcoming pantomime Jack and Beanstalk, set to entertain audiences from December 2024 to January 2025.
