Coronation Street fans spot ‘real culprit’ after dramatic Platt house fire

Coronation Street fans believe they’ve uncovered the ‘true’ arsonist on the cobbles.

Earlier this week, viewers witnessed a catastrophic fire engulfing the Platt family’s home, trapping several characters inside.

Fortunately, most managed to escape unharmed, but Max Turner was caught in the explosion and rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The plot has since thickened as it’s been revealed that the fire was a deliberate act of arson. In Wednesday’s episode, it was disclosed that Max had thankfully awakened from his coma, but more turmoil awaited the Platt family as David found himself arrested for the fire despite vehemently denying any involvement.

Leanne Battersby, who was intoxicated during the fire and has no recollection of the night, was also brought to the police station under suspicion. Meanwhile, Abi Webster, who has been grappling with PTSD, came under suspicion earlier this week after she assaulted Toyah Battersby prior to the fire, reports Lancs Live.

However, even with three suspects, soap fans are convinced they’ve identified the real culprit behind the fire, and it has nothing to do with David, Leanne or Abi. Following Max’s recovery from unconsciousness, soap fans on Twitter, now X, are speculating whether he might be the one who started the fire.

Chatter among fans is heating up with theories about who’s behind the drama as one person tweeted: “Max started the fire. #Corrie”, while another echoed the sentiment, posting: “Now thinking it was Max who started the fire. #Corrie”. A third chimed in with: “Any chance Max started the fire #corrie” and yet another viewer speculated: “Max clearly started the fire #Corrie.”

This growing suspicion comes on the heels of actor Paddy Bever’s announcement that he’s leaving the beloved ITV soap after playing the role of Max. With his final scenes already in the can, could it be that his character is the one to blame for the blaze?

Reflecting on his exit from the Street, Paddy spoke to The Mirror about his decision to bow out: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.”

The up-and-coming star, who snagged the rising star trophy at 2022’s National Television Awards, expressed his deep appreciation to the show’s writers for the shot at sculpting the layers of Max’s storyline on-screen after taking over from actor Harry McDermott in 2021.

Celebrating his stint, he remarked: “It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show,” adding that while he is pumped for future pursuits, these special moments on set will forever hold a place in his heart.
