Coronation Street is set to rock Weatherfield once again with a bombshell plot twist that’s sure to have soap aficionados on the edge of their seats.

The ITV soap, a titan of telly drama, has delivered everything from torrid affairs to shock quad births over its impressive run. And just last year, fans were glued to their screens as teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) took drastic action against her tormentor Joel Deering (Calum Lill), while the beloved Paul Doreman (Pete Ash) tragically succumbed to MND.

Kicking off 2025 with a bang, Corrie is uncorking a “hard-hitting” new knife crime saga that’s set to spell trouble for the street’s darlings. Showrunner Kate Brooks spun a yarn to Plymouth Live, spilling the beans: “Just when you thought it was safe to relax, we start the year with a big knife crime story.”

Dubbing it a “really important issue to tackle,”, Kate unspooled the harrowing details: “The statistics are so alarming. I think knife crime has gone up by 80% in the past 10 years. We’ve worked really closely with the Ben Kinsella Foundation to ensure that we are telling the story right, and to ensure the message is don’t carry a knife after fear because that escalates everything.”

Corrie’s Kate Oates has hinted at agony ahead for several Weatherfield regulars, revealing some juicy plot details. She divulged on the edge-of-your-seat drama: “It’s going to be very hard-hitting. We have Mason [Radcliffe] at the centre of it. We have Dylan [Wilson] involved, it has massive ramifications for Abi [Webster] and for Tim [Metcalfe] and Sally [Metcalfe] going forward.”, reports Plymouth Live.

Touching on the upcoming turmoil in the Street, Kate continued: “And we just felt like it’s a subject that we couldn’t ignore. It has quite big consequences for people. It’s not a subject matter that has been tackled lightly. It’s an important one to talk about, it’s an important one to let young people know carrying that a bladed article is not the way.”

While Kate kept schtum on whether the stabbing victim takes their last breath, she did caution: “It has got a lot of impact on people. And it’s not just Mason and Dylan and Betsy who are the heart of it. There are other characters involved. It’s a real community story, but a real shocking story.”

Moreover, the soap teasers for the hotly-anticipated episodes kicking off from Monday 6 January paint a grim picture, as Mason tragically falls prey to a stabbing incident. Following a call to the police made by Mason against his ruffian siblings Matty and Logan, they seek retribution leading to a perilous pursuit.

The situation takes a tragic turn when Mason is stabbed, and Abi Franklin discovers him bleeding out. She tries to save him while the emergency services are alerted. In the ambulance, Betsy clasps Abi’s hand as they both try to reassure Mason that he will pull through. But will the young lad make it?
