Coronation Street

Coronation Street icon ‘set to’ uncover Tracy Barlow and Tommy Orpington’s affair – and it’s not Steve McDonald

Tracy and Tommy Orpington flirt while in the flower shop in Corrie

Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn) will have some serious explaining to do in Coronation Street when their scandalous affair is finally exposed.

The pair embarked on a passionate and steamy relationship a number of weeks ago after Tommy paid Tracy a visit to redecorate her bedroom (minds out of the gutter please).

Dashing Tommy certainly got pulses racing all across Weatherfield but ultimately there was just one woman on the cobbled streets that the retired Weathy County footballer was interested in.

Tracy did her best to resist temptation at first but, before long, one thing led to another, with passion ensuing while her poor and unsuspecting husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) holidayed in France. There was something of a close call last week when Steve arrived home earlier than expected to catch Tommy and Tracy together in Preston’s Petals but, having a lot of experience when it comes to lying, Tracy was quick on her feet and thus covered tremendously well.

Tommy, meanwhile, has now been tasked with decorating the flower shop since he did such a good job at No. 1 and this will inevitably give himself and Tracy ample opportunity – not to mention a new base of operations, so to speak – to carry on with their sordid affair.

But with Preston’s Petals being where all the, uh, action is set to take place, the question is: is it only a matter of time before they’re caught in the act?

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), for one, walks in on a heated argument between the adulterers next week so will she work out what’s going on?

Knowing Tracy she’ll no doubt think up of a lie to cover her tracks and, if this proves to be the case then the legend is out of the woods again.

But there’s one person who frequents the flower shop just as much as Tracy – if not more so – so I imagine it might be her that will work out that’s going on.

I am of course referring to the legend that is Mary Taylor (Patti Clare).

Mary can smell a secret from a mile away (Picture: ITV)

Let’s face it, there’s nothing Mary loves more than a mystery and with colleague Tracy behaving in a peculiar fashion as of late it’s likely only a matter of time before her interests are piqued.

Mary’s penchant for smelling a secret is renowned on the cobbled streets of Weatherfield so she’ll likely soon sniff out the (love) rat.

But if this theory does prove correct, will Mary spill the beans to Steve? Or will she resolve to keep shtum in a bid to keep her friendship, not to mention her job, intact?
