Coronation Street icon’s return confirmed after 16 years away from ITV soap

EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street favourite Antony Cotton has revealed fans can expect to see a familiar face on the ITV cobbles next month after 16 years away from the famous street

Coronation Street favourite Antony Cotton has revealed that one iconic will be gracing the ITV cobbles once more, 16 years after they left the show.

Over the past few months, ITV fans have been glued to their screens as school bully Mason Radcliffe (played by Luca Toolan) has wreaked havoc at Weatherfield High School. Viewers have watched Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) be terrorised by the highschooler ever since he arrived on the Street.

After months of bullying his fellow students, Mason has built up quite a reputation for himself both inside and outside the school grounds. Tensions have been rising between Dylan and Mason as Liam takes a dark turn after being bullied every day.

Now, the Sean Tully star has revealed that Liam’s long-lost mum Violet Wilson is set to return to the street for the first time in 16 years. Actress Jenny Platt left the ITV soap back in 2008, and it’s fair to say her co-stars can’t wait to see her return to the Weatherfield.

“So I’ve got three scenes with her tomorrow, and we film across the next month. She’s not coming back permanently but she’s coming back.”

The TV star went on to point out the importance of her arrival on the Street and how it will help pull the teen out of trouble. He explained: “We’ve tried to get her back in various different ways and mean because at the end of the day, she’s Dylan’s mum. So we need to see her.

“There will be a little bit of blaming back and forth which I would imagine is quite natural. We do often talk about Violet, and Sean off-screen goes down and sees them and stays with them.

“But 16 years ago, she left with Dylan and she’s never been seen on screen since. When she was there, the internet barely existed, isn’t that mad?

“16 years ago smartphones weren’t like they were. People had Blackberries with a keyboard on but most people still didn’t do that. So much has changes in 16 years, social media didn’t exist.”

“Now, she’s coming back for four weeks, so she’s in probably a dozen episodes and then who knows because this storyline is gonna go on.”

The actor went on to suggest that the soap star may be returning again in the future. He teased: “So I hope that as long as it goes well and she enjoys it, I’m hoping that we might see her again.”Because if there’s more of this stuff, and it gets more serious, one would imagine that we would see Violet again. We’ll see what happens.”
