Coronation Street star Calum Lill has landed himself a new role as part of the ITV Daytime family.

The actor recently departed the soap after a year as sinister Joel Deering.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the character was responsible for Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) disappearance. It transpired that the lawyer is actually an evil, manipulative individual who preys on vulnerable young women.

After meeting Lauren last year, Joel regularly paid her visits and gave her money to pay for food and water. As time ticked by, Joel manipulated Lauren into having sex with him as a repayment.

Once Dee-Dee discovered the real Joel Deering, she became determined to destroy him and put him behind bars. This situation changed dramatically a few days ago, however, as Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) found Joel’s car on a bridge along with a note, which suggested he had ended his life.

Last month, Joel’s body was discovered in a river. Following a post-mortem, Kit learnt that Joel was dead before he entered the water, meaning he had been murdered.

A number of suspects have since entered the frame, with Calum reprising the role for flashback sequences.

Ahead of an appearance as Fleshcreep in the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre next month, he’s landed a new presenting role on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine.

Making his first appearance this morning, Calum appeared in the competition segments that give viewers a chance to win a sizeable prize.

Dressed in a dressing gown and later swimming through a pool, he advertising a spa break that came with a cash sum.

Upon the star’s Corrie departure, his co-star Channique Sterling-Brown paid tribute in a sweet Instagram post.

‘RIP Joel Deering. You were flipping awful but you came in the form of one of my best mates and for that I’m very grateful’ she wrote.

‘A year of shenanigans, endless brews, rehearsing only to get distracted and you carrying all my stuff.

‘We’ve been grumpy, giddy, cried (okay I’ve cried) but most of all we’ve laughed. Thanks for the best year Cal, I wouldn’t have wanted to tell DeeDee and Joel’s story with anyone else.’

Channique concluded: ‘Right that’s enough being nice now, we can’t afford for that head of yours to get any bigger.’
