Coronation Street legend arrested for Lauren’s murder leaving neighbours gobsmacked
The search for missing Lauren Bolton is faced with a dramatic twist in Coronation Street as Roy Cropper gets arrested on suspicion of murdering the young woman
Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper gets arrested as part of the investigation into missing Lauren Bolton’s murder next week.
Bobby Crawford (Jack Crawford) suggests Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) should think about renting Lauren’s (Cait Fitton) old flat but when Sean says he saw what looked like blood on the curtains Carla Connor (Alison King) and Bobby head straight for the police station and tell DS Swain (Victoria Myers).
DS Swain and Craig let themselves into Lauren’s flat and survey the extent of the blood stains. Bobby tells them about her relationship with Roy, how he gave her a job, found her somewhere to live and cleaned up the mess in the flat after she left. DS Swain calls at the café and questions Roy.
Bobby and Max Turner (Paddy Beaver) spend the night watching the police coming and going from Lauren’s flat. When Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) and Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) call round at No.8 to ask about Lauren, Max quizzes Daniel about his tutor sessions.
Realising the dates don’t stack up, Max eyes Daniel with suspicion. When Max goes to the station to tell Swain about Lauren’s O-Vidz account he discovers Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) had already told her. DS Swain questions Max about Lauren’s secret boyfriend.
Max admits that he never met her boyfriend, but he suspects it’s Daniel. DS Swain quizzes Daniel about his relationship with Lauren, suggesting that she paid for her lessons with sex. Daniel’s horrified and when DS Swain drags up his previous relationships with Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby and Nicky Wheatley (Kimberly Hart-Simpson) he demands a solicitor realising he is under suspicion.
Bethany and Daniel listen in horror to a radio interview with DS Swain in which she suggests that Lauren was murdered. Daniel confides in Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) that he hasn’t slept a wink fearing he’ll be banged up for a murder he didn’t commit.
Meanwhile, it becomes clear that Roy (David Neilson) is getting trolled online and Carla is forced to show him the vile comments. Max wants to do another appeal but Carla and Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) warn Roy not to do the appeal as it’ll only invite further unwanted attention.
Suzi from the Gazette arrives at the café hoping to record a fresh appeal but they’re interrupted by the arrival of DS Swain who tells Roy she’s arresting him on suspicion of the murder of Lauren Bolton. Carla and Nina watch in horror as Roy is led away. The video of his arrest is posted online leaving Carla sickened by Roy’s predicament.
