Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) has made the heartbreaking decision to leave Coronation Street forever – just hours after reconciling with husband Steve (Simon Gregson).

The florist has been engaging in a steamy affair with former footballer turned painter and decorator Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn) for months, first kicking off when she employed him to renovate her bedroom.

But she had much grander plans for what he could be working on…

After their fling was exposed by neighbour Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), Steve was left devastated and his attempts at getting back on the dating scene have been unsuccessful.

Following a cocktail night at the Chariot Square Hotel, he was left disappointed as his pensioner father-in-law Ken Barlow (William Roache) managed to woo a woman and he didn’t.

Meanwhile, Tracy ended things with Tommy after learning he’d kept a new job opportunity in Spain secret from her.

Steve holds a letter in Coronation Street

In last week’s episodes, he called round to Preston’s Petals in the hope of speaking with her, unaware that Steve was cashing up and hiding behind the counter.

Slipping a letter through the door, it unsurprisingly went undelivered.

In tonight’s (1st April) episode, Steve continued to hide the letter and was surprised to return home to find Tracy in his dressing gown.

Begging him to get back with her after realising that she couldn’t live without a man, he foolishly took her back.

At the corner shop, Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) was disappointed to learn that his mate was being messed around again, and refused to serve Steve with some celebratory fizz.

As Tracy got dressed for their evening in the pub, he secretly burnt the letter in the sink.

The Rovers patrons feigned interest in their reunion and later in the evening, Tommy called Tracy asking if she’d received his letter offering a chance to move to Spain with him.

Believing daughter Amy (Elle Mulvaney) had hidden it for fears of losing her mum, she was in disbelief to learn it was in fact Steve.

After a tense row, she packed her bags again and in a huge public spectacle, hugged him goodbye at the door of No. 1 and told him to inform Amy of her intentions to move away – tomorrow.

As she climbed into her taxi and drove off, Steve looked deflated.

Will she have a last minute change of heart?
