Coronation Street legend lands new job after years behind the bar
It’s the end of an era for Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) after seven years behind the bar of the Rovers Return in Coronation Street, as she takes on a brand new venture.
The landlady of the local boozer was left devastated earlier this year when Carla Connor (Alison King) announced that she needed to put the pub on the market in order to claim back the money Jenny and Daisy Midgeley had stolen from her.
Jenny and Daisy had pocketed almost £250,000 of Carla’s money, after finding it in one of Stephen Reid’s accounts.
Instead of handing it over to her, they used it to buy the pub and hoped that she would never know.
Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t long before Carla found out the truth, and to say she was furious would be an understatement.
When Carla was forced to go private for her kidney transplant earlier this year, she informed Jenny and Daisy that she would need all of the money paying back as soon as possible.
However, because neither of them had that kind of cash lying around, Jenny was forced to put Carla’s name on the Rovers’ deeds and allow her to put it on the market.
In tonight’s episode, the first lot of potential buyers arrived to scope the place out, and Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) did everything she could to put them off – a tactic that worked wonders.
Though Jenny was flattered, she pointed out that there would be other buyers and that it was time to accept defeat.
Poor Jenny was at a loss as she wondered aloud to Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) what she was supposed to do with her life now.
Rita tried to keep her spirits up, assuring her that she would find something she’d excel at.
As Rita and Jenny cracked open the gin, Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) arrived to escort Rita home, and Jenny took the opportunity to ask if he had any jobs available at the Kabin.
Brian gently turned her down, revealing that he was fully-staffed, before Rita announced that she wanted to step back from her role a little now that she was getting older.
Faced with losing one of his most loyal employees, Brian immediately offered Jenny the job, and she accepted gratefully. How will she get on in her new position?
