George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) recently had a shock in Coronation Street when he discovered that his father, Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd), had left the undertakers’ business jointly to him and his sister Glenda (Jodie Prenger), rather than the whole business belonging to him.

He decided to keep the information quiet, but has been feeling guilty about deceiving his sister.

‘He’s in this quandary of not want to short-change his sister but also not wanting to hand her half a business that she’s going to sink into the ground in five seconds, if she gets her hands on it!’ Tony Maudsley told us.

‘She was never a responsible kid. She couldn’t even look after her pets properly. Pets died and she went and got another one or she’d wait for a new fad to kick in and say she wanted a terrapin. Things like that.

‘So George knows that she’s not a responsible person.’

All the same, his guilt intensifies in upcoming episodes when Glenda tells him she wants to raise the money to buy the Little Big Shotz business.

He offers to help her apply for a bank loan but soon realises there’s no way she would ever be offered a loan based on her accounts.

Glenda’s next plan is to buy the business on credit and pay it back in instalments, but George knows that there’s no way she could afford the repayments.

Glenda is annoyed by his apparent lack of support and as she vents to Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), he misunderstands what she’s talking about and assumes she knows about Archie’s will – and lets slip enough information to make Glenda suspicious. And once she knows the truth, she’s raging.

She decides to take legal advice and goes to see Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), who is not encouraging.

He says that suing her brother for half the business would costs a lot of money and there’s no guarantee that she’d win. But will she decide to go ahead regardless?

‘There’s going to be a bit of a battle there,’ Tony Maudsley said.

‘She’s in a position where she’s not got much money. She’s renting a little room off Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) over pub. So life for Glenda, although she’s happy, it’s not great. It could be better. And if she sees these pound signs in her eyes, there may be no turning back!’
