There’s another exit looming on Coronation Street, and new details have revealed more about the unexpected twist.

Many viewers were surprised to learn this week that newcomer Mick Michaelis, played by actor Joe Layton, was leaving the role just months after joining. His exit will air onscreen in the coming months making his stint as the villain pretty short.

But insiders have told The Mirror that this was the plan from the get-go. They spilled to us when exactly Mick will be bowing out from the cobbles, amid hints about his final scenes.

The insider divulged that there was huge stuff ahead for the character, amid a flashback special featuring Mick and other characters which is yet to air. It’s thought this and other drama on the cobbles will pave the way for his big exit from the show – but despite rumours of a shock departure and the star quitting, it was actually the plan all along for Mick to be a temporary character.

It’s yet to be confirmed whether Mick’s wife Lou will also leave the show, with it thought she could remain on the street amid rumours another character is her mystery child. We know the pair have children, and fans are suspecting newcomer Brody, the teen terrorising Dylan Wilson in the STC, could be her son.

Fans are wondering if detective Kit Green could be Brody’s dad, and that Mick will find out leading to his big exit. After all, it was told to The Mirror months ago that Kit was in some way linked to the new couple, and that the “floodgates” would open.

It seems they are hiding a mystery past that will soon come to light with the flashback episode. Whatever happens from this episode and any other big discoveries will likely lead to the exit of Mick.

What we can tell you is that there is still plenty to come from Mick before he leaves, with writers planning lots of drama amid Mick causing uproar with many of his neighbours. We can also confirm that Mick is leaving the show in the summer, and that his exit will air onscreen at the end of July.

So that means we have four more months ahead of the baddie, amid him causing drama with Debbie Webster and others. Given another big character is thought to be being killed off in the summer, that person being Craig Tinker, could Mick somehow be linked to this plot?

Might Brody be making his way to the Street, and could this or the possible paternity twist lead to Mick upping and leaving? Then there’s the drama with Chesney Brown, so might Mick take revenge over what he did to his van?

Is a character in danger of Mick given his recent behaviour towards Debbie, wife Lou and even Daisy Midgeley who is also leaving the show? The possibilities are endless but what’s for certain is that fans will have a lot to look forward to.

An insider told The Mirror: “There is no shock exit, Joe knew from the start how long he would be on the show for. His contract length was revealed to him the moment he joined so this isn’t a surprise to him or Corrie bosses.

“Mick entered the show for a specific storyline which will continue to unfold until his final scenes air later this year. There’s plenty of twists ahead with a lot more story to come before Mick leaves the show in scenes that will air in late July.”

Our Mirror soap source shared of this: “Mick is explosive and can be the catalyst for so many twists and turns. Corrie are staying quiet on exact details for now, but fans can expect edge-on-their-seat drama and plenty of chaos on the way.

“Mick might only be here for a short time not a long time, but his scenes are certainly not short on carnage and drama. He certainly makes his mark across Weatherfield with big stuff on the way before his summer exit.”
