Coronation Street viewers have plenty of mysteries to work out on the ITV soap

Coronation Street viewers are trying to work out some of the biggest mysteries on the ITV soap at the moment, including a possible killer and a newcomer’s real identity.

Abi Franklin took centre stage this week in a horrifying deepfake porn storyline that has only just begun. One character is out to get her and is setting her up but who could it be?

We also saw Rowan Cunliffe trying to encourage more residents to join his mystery retreat, as part of his ‘wellness institute’. But with Toyah Battersby convinced it’s a scam, what is Rowan really up to?

On Wednesday we met newcomer Roscoe, Roy Cropper’s new prison inmate. Are viewers correct with their theory that he’s up to no good? Finally we have the question everyone is asking – who killed Lauren?

With the truth set to come out next week, might viewers have correctly guessed which character is behind her disappearance? Here’s all the biggest theories ahead of the truth coming out…

On Wednesday we met newcomer Roscoe, Roy Cropper's new prison inmate

Roscoe’s real identity

Coronation Street fans believe newcomer Roscoe could have a sinister plan for Roy, after revealing his link to another character on the ITV soap. The character walked into Roy’s prison cell during Wednesday’s episode, claiming to be on his side. Amid Roy being banged up for Lauren’s murder despite being innocent, he’s kept to himself and hidden away in his cell.

On Wednesday newcomer Roscoe made his presence known, leaving Roy in fear as he ordered him to leave. But Roscoe claimed they had a mutual friend and that he was there to be an ally of his, at the request of someone else.

Roscoe told Roy that he was an old friend of Roy’s neighbour Stu Carpenter, and Stu had asked him to look out for Roy in prison. Roy was touched by this and passed on his thanks to Stu, with Stu confirming Roscoe’s story was correct.

But while some viewers were thrilled to see that Roy had a prison pal, others were a bit unsure how genuine the newcomer was. Some fans couldn’t help but question if there was a different reason for him suddenly wanting to know Roy. So is he linked to someone else, and could he be helping baddie Griff?

On Wednesday night, Abi’s colleague and pal Tyrone Dobbs confirmed he’d received an email containing a sex tape of Abi. Abi was mortified after claiming she’d never filmed a sex video before, worrying that it was something she could not remember from her past.

Abi is a recovering drug addict and has admitted in the past that there are things she doesn’t remember. But what Abi will soon learn is that the video is not real, and is a deepfake with someone setting her up.

More videos of her are set to emerge, and are spread online in upcoming scenes. On Wednesday, Tyrone first saw the video via email before finding it online too. Abi fought back tears and clashed with her husband Kevin Webster, who believed the video was real. As Abi was determined to find out who had sent the video, she said she would go to the police.

The video appearing coincided with her former dealer Dean coming back to the show out of nowhere, asking her for money. Cassie Plummer caught their altercation, as Abi demanded he left her alone.

Abi was convinced the person who made the video and then shared it was Dean, who she had been with in the past. She left him a voicemail claiming he had “won”, hoping that if she gave him the money he might stop.

But viewers are convinced Abi is wrong and that Dean isn’t behind it, after spotting Cassie spying on Abi once more. Taking to X, fans speculated over who really sent the video, and believed it was Cassie who made it after she was also shown badmouthing Abi to her partner Kevin.

Coronation Street viewers are convinced they’ve worked out a secret link between two characters, and that this could expose who killed Lauren on the ITV soap. Lauren is feared dead after going missing in February, with her flat trashed and blood found there too. Detectives found evidence of a brutal assault, including a bloodied weapon with it believed she had been hit over the head.

While no body had been found, Lauren is feared dead, with Roy Cropper charged with her murder. But viewers are convinced someone else is the killer and new spoilers may have confirmed some suspicions in their eyes.

With Joel Deering and Nathan Curtis both tipped to be the killer or the person to have at least attacked her, some fans have also been questioning whether the pair are linked. Amid rumours they could be brothers or connected through the child sex grooming gang Nathan was a part of years ago, fans are now believing the latest spoilers have teased a link is definitely there.

Ahead of the killer truth coming out in next week’s special episodes, spoilers confirm Nathan is hauled in for questioning by detectives as evidence mounts against him. But in a surprise turn of events, Joel is revealed to be Nathan’s solicitor which leaves residents furious.

But does Joel have an ulterior motive for helping him, and does this prove they could share a secret link? Fans certainly believe so, and have said Joel is likely helping Nathan to get closer to the case, to cover his tracks as the real killer.

Rowan’s real plan

Leanne has been missing for days since being reeled in by Rowan and his institute, with him sending her off to a retreat. But amid him claiming to be helping her with her trauma, fans are convinced his recordings of her talking about her past are all an attempt to blackmail her.

Viewers predicted he wasn’t genuine, and wasn’t listening to her for support but instead to con her out of her money. Viewers questioned whether he would later use the information she told him, all recorded, against her.

One fan posted: “Perhaps that Rowan will blackmail Leanne with the info she ‘uploads’ to him,” as another agreed: “Rowan: tell me all your secrets. Non-one is listening but I might blackmail you about them later.” A third fan said: “I think Rowan gets people to tell them secrets about their lives and blackmails them,” as a fourth asked: “Is idiot Rowan going to use whatever Leanne is telling him against her at some point?”
