Coronation Street pregnancy storyline ‘rumbled’ for Cassie – but Ken’s not the dad

A bizarre Coronation Street theory by fans suggested Cassie Plummer could be pregnant with Ken Barlow's child

There’s a new Coronation Street theory doing the rounds, with fans predicting a huge pregnancy twist will rock the cobbles.

Cassie Plummer was recently at the centre of a theory surrounding a divisive storyline with Ken Barlow, amid her shockingly drugging him this week. With her facing trouble in the fallout, a scene with Steve McDonald this week left fans convinced Cassie would soon find out she was pregnant.

Fans had initially believed Cassie would end up with Ken, most likely using him with a fake romance to get his money. After their recent holiday together, some fans came up with the odd theory that she might be pregnant with Ken’s child.

While that seems unlikely, there was another mention of Cassie and Steve’s brief romance this week. Now, fans are sure in a twist she might find out she’s pregnant with Steve’s child.

Taking to X, one viewer posted: “Cassie is 100% pregnant they’ve mentioned this too many times for it to be insignificant #Corrie.” Another agreed: “Next thing Cassie will be pregnant,” while a third said: “Cassie is gonna be pregnant with Steve’s baby.” A fourth asked: “Is Cassie pregnant?”

It comes as Cassie actress Claire Sweeney addressed the shocking storyline with Ken, which has seen the character poisoning him. Ken was rushed to hospital this week after viewers saw her putting a crushed pill in his tea.

Speaking about her shock over the plot, she spilled: “I was shocked, it’s Ken Barlow, he’s a national treasure. I’m going to be Public Enemy No 1! I think viewers are going to hate her. The funny thing is that they’ve just started to like her – they were finally warming to her – and then this happens.

“In my head, playing her, I’m trying to find saving graces, but I don’t know if there will be any. I’m a Corrie fan and I’d be fuming watching this. Already in the summer when I went on holiday to Majorca all the old dears were saying to me: ‘You leave Ken alone,’ ‘Don’t you be upsetting Ken now.’ And that was before I’d done anything!”

She went on: “She doesn’t want to hurt him – she just wants him to need her. She adores Ken. The two of them find these moments of absolute affection with each other. They love being with each other.

“So, when Ken says he can’t afford to keep her on she’s devastated – where’s she going to go, what’s she going to do, who is she going to be with? There’s an anger and a hurt and a feeling of abandonment. It’s not even necessarily money-orientated, she likes the life she’s got looking after him. There’s an element of Munchausen’s to it.”
