It’s goodbye for one Coronation Street resident after they shared plans to leave the ITV cobbles for good for pastures new.
In Friday’s episode (May 24) of the soap, Carla Connor confessed to Sarah Platt that she’s been missing her estranged husband Peter Barlow, who left Weatherfield for a job at sea. In shock scenes, Peter contacted his son Simon and asked him to come and work with him on his pal’s yacht.
Simon hurried to show Carla the snaps Peter sent him of his travels so far, and couldn’t wait to join him on the high seas. In emotional scenes, though, Carla was taken aback seeing her husband with his arms wrapped around a mystery woman.
Ken admitted Peter has found a new partner and they’re happy together, leaving Carla devastated. She was left heartbroken by Simon’s decision to follow in his dad’s footsteps, admitting: “There is one little man I’m going to miss being in my life very much.”
The star has already hinted at some huge plans after leaving the cobbles, launching his production company Mjöllnir Productions Ltd in 2020 and announcing he’ll be undertaking musical projects as well as acting. He told followers of his Corrie exit: “That’s a wrap for Simon Barlow.
“Thank you to [everyone] at Coronation Street for the best 15 years of my life. Might be grey skies but I adore [ITV filming studios] so much. Love you all my Corrie family.”
Fans can’t believe the actor is leaving the Street after decades of playing Simon Barlow – starting when he was only seven years old. Fans have been left devastated by his exit storyline, with one writing on X: “Looks like Simon’s exit is next week!”
Another said: “Simon off to work on the boat with Peter then. Brilliant news.” While a third social media user exaggerated: “The fact Simon is finally leaving after it was announced six years ago he was leaving!” Someone else posted: “Is this the last we’ll see of Simon?”
