Coronation Street reveals Carla Connor’s turmoil as mystery letter exposed in Peter twist

Heartbreak is on its way to Carla Connor in upcoming scenes as the Underworld factory boss receives a bombshell letter with news from her estranged husband Peter Barlow.

Carla Connor and Peter Barlow have been living on different sides of the globe for several months, prompting the cabbie to make a huge decision for their marriage.

Actor Chris Gascoyne was last seen on Coronation Street in December, 2023, just as he was waving Carla (portrayed by Alison King) goodbye. The Weatherfield veteran had been spiralling out of control following the death of Stephen Reid and he has since been travelling around the world.

Carla, on the other hand, has remained focused on her work at the Underworld factory in periphery of Lauren Bolton’s mysterious disappearance, taking care of her long-lost nephew Bobby and Ryan Connor, though she is also expected to appear in court for ABH in upcoming scenes.

Unfortunately for her, things will go from bad to worse for Carla and a letter making her divorce from Peter Barlow official will bring her back to reality as their marriage finally draws to a difficult close.

Carla will receive the letter while at work and the mention of divorce will be enough to make her spiral out of control, particularly as her court date ends in a confrontation with Tom, the father of the lad she knocked over.

Speaking about the scenes, Alison King said: “She’s in a really vulnerable state on that day, she’s had this letter, there’s a lot going on in her head and she just snaps. She’s trying to defend herself, although really she’s got no defence whatsoever for what she did. She goes back to the factory, tells everybody to go home, then suddenly this lunatic appears, coming at her and really raising his voice in quite threatening behaviour.”

The soap star then added: “She goes home and she starts drinking. It transpires that the letter was her divorce from Peter coming through. She goes into a kind of morose, maudlin mode. It’s just the end of a really, really bad day and tough as she is she’s feeling very sorry for herself.”

Luckily for her, romance may just be on its way. Viewers of the Manchester-based drama have seen Carla grow closer to DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) in recent months and have been keen to see them develop a romantic connection. And their wish may become a reality on screens.

In scenes due to air, both women, known for being two of the strongest ladies on the cobbles, will let their guards down and explore their vulnerabilities as a single mother and a divorcee. But when a seemingly gentle touch feels electric, Carla wonders what she’s just experienced and if Lisa even feels the same.

Speaking about her Weatherfield alter ego’s relationship with Lisa Swain, Alison also said: “I think Carla’s still in shock and she’s very much in the moment. There is a real friendship growing between them and the fact that she’s come around to check on her really means something to Carla.”

And Lisa’s daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) has had her own part to play in the budding romance, as Carla has recently taken the mischievous teen on at the Underworld factory. “I think because she’s taken Betsy on, there’s kind of kindred spirit forming. We’ve seen Lisa have a bad day and Carla being a shoulder to lean on.”
