Coronation Street revisits devastating fire death in poignant scene
Coronation Street has revisited the devastating death of Kal Nazir in recent scenes, as Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) reminisced.
Leanne was arrested for the fire at the Platt’s earlier this month, and has been the subject of gossip ever since.
Growing increasingly frustrated at having the finger wrongly pointed in her direction, drunk Leanne set the record straight in front of the Rovers’ punters.
As she argued her innocence and warned people to mind their own business, Yasmeen encouraged her to sit down and have a chat.
Yasmeen was particularly gentle as she explained that she never once thought that Leanne could have started the fire, referring to her as the ‘caring girl who was part of her family’.
Viewers may remember that Leanne got engaged to Yasmeen’s son Kal after beginning an affair with him in 2014.
Kal was tragically killed in 2015 when he got trapped inside Victoria Court, where Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) had started a fire.
Leanne and Kal had rushed into the building to save Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), only to find themselves trapped inside when the roof caved in.
While firefighters were able to pull Leanne and Amy to safety, Kal was still inside when the block of flats was rocked by an explosion.
Leanne admitted to Yasmeen that she still thought about Kal, and Yasmeen confirmed that she did too.
She explained that she too knew how it felt to be cheated on with someone close to her, and to lose a child – both things that Leanne has been through in the last few years – and that they only way to survive the pain was to stay positive and let go.
Leanne was clearly grateful for the advice, especially considering how she is lacking in the friends department at the moment.
Will Yasmeen’s advice spur Leanne to get her life back on track, or will she continue on a downward spiral?
