Coronation Street Rob Donovan’s real intentions for Carla ‘revealed’ after return
Coronation Street actor Marc Baylis has teased what villain Rob Donovan really has in store for his sister Carla Connor on the ITV soap amid his return after eight years away
Rob Donovan actor Marc Baylis has spoken out about his big Coronation Street comeback after eight years.
But amid the villain pushing the story that he’s a changed man, years on from him murdering Tina McIntyre on the ITV soap, is there more to his comeback? Carla Connor will be left rocked by the return of her criminal brother in upcoming scenes amid her ongoing health battle.
Carla needs a kidney transplant after being hospitalised, and Rob soon offers to be a donor. Carla is unnerved, not having spoken with Rob for a while, with the idea of him renterting her life worrying her.
Amid her considering accepting Rob as a transplant donor, Rob claims to be a changed man who has found religion. He reveals his intentions with Carla and his son Bobby, suggesting he’s a man who can be trusted.
But what’s he really up to, and does Carla need to watch out? Actor Marc has now spoken out about the comeback and teased the truth behind his return. He appeared to confirm Rob’s real plan for his sister Carla, and whether he should be given the chance to prove himself.
Marc spilled on Rob’s real intentions for his sibling: “He loves his sister. Carla is the closest that he’s had with any of his relationships. It’s the longest relationship that he’s ever had. He feels that Carla is the only person who would truly understand him, even above Tracy, because of everything that they experienced together growing up.

“So regardless of what behavior Rob shows or what he expresses, deep down underneath everything is, is a lot of love.” So this seems to suggest there is no drama and he really does want to help Carla in her time of need. But is he a changed man?
Marc went on: “Rob is a very different person. It’s been seven years since we last saw him. That’s a lot of life. It’s a lot of time to be in the prison system as well. Whether his core nature has changed or not, whether he’s made changes for the greater good, is yet to be seen.
“But he’s not had the easiest of times in prison, as I don’t think anyone would do for that amount of time, particularly someone who did what he did to a young woman. It’s not something that he’s had an easy journey with, and it’s something that he has huge regrets over with the way that everything played out.
“We do get to see some of that on screen, as well as Rob’s genuine feelings. But with Rob, there are always motives to make his life better than what it is, and that may well get him into trouble yet again.
“There are some heartfelt moments with the people that Rob loves, including new characters that Rob has relationships with. There’s a darker side to Rob than I’ve known before, and we get a window into, I would say, a man who needs more support than he’s getting.”
